(1996 SPX) Maybe a coincidence, but during a spirited ride through some choppy water it suddenly started running rough. This was the first ride after genuine Mikuni carb kit, and fuel line replacement. It never flipped over or got water inside. It ran fine for an hour or so until it didn't. It stumbles through the low end and then will suddenly catch and go like hell.
*Full disclosure* I did not do the carb kits or fuel lines, there's a local shop that does a lot of jet ski repair. I'm reaching out to you guys to pass along some helpful info to the shop to get this thing ripping again. Yes, the shop is a little stumped at the moment and that's where it is presently. Thanks for any and all suggestions!

When you do the fuel lines,,,you should also do the fuel selector,,,did the shop use original mikuni ki?,,,or you are going to have issues.
Check battery,,,load test,,,connections,,,check for good spark,,.

Fuel selector can’t be cleaned. They need to be replaced or you risk running lean.

Alright, I'll gladly replace fuel selector valve. Is there any other reason it would run rough after some mild wake jumping? Maybe just coincidence? Did I rattle something loose?

O.k. I got a new original Seadoo fuel selector valve from OSD to put on. I've done some more researching through this forum and my problem sound identical to some pop off issues I've found... Is it possible for a pop off issue to suddenly happen mid-ride? Keep in mind I was only about an hour into riding after a Mikuni carb rebuild.

Not that I have seen but weird things can happen.

I had a customer that I did a full fuel system rebuild on with all new Mikuni and OEM parts. He brought it back a week later and said it died after running it hard for about 4 hours and then wouldn't restart. I finally got it started and the blew a ton of black fuel and water out the exhaust all over my driveway. I pulled the carbs back apart and there was a small white nylon bristle holding the needle open and flooding the ski. I have no idea where it came from since I don't even have anything like that in my shop and no way it could have gotten past the fuel strainer or little in-carb filters but there it was. Removed it and never had another issue.

Replaced fuel selector with new oem. The shop claimed they inspected the carbs again and pop-offs were about 42 psi and everything seemed to look good. I ran it yesterday and everything is the same as when I brought it in. Again, it idles fine, then you have to coax the throttle for quite some time to fight it from dying and then WOT is fine.

Is there anything else that comes to mind? Remember this issue happened mid-ride. It was running great prior. Does this sound like a possible accelerator pump issue?

Miki could be right,,,maybe that wave dislodged a particle in the carb,/ ,fuel system,,sounds like it is running rich since it clears out and then ,,it works,,,
