Im in the middle of replacing my two 717 engines in my 98 sportster 1800. I went with new rebuilt engines. everything seems to be going very well, its all going so smooth and that is whats got me worried. my question, is there anything i need to know when assembling and installing these engines? Im putting all new gaskets on the intake and exhaust components. im repalceing all the hoses (wich turned out to be a bigger job than i thought). Just wondering if there is anything im missing. Is there a small gasket on the jet pump that is good to replace? is it easy to adjust the low speed steering cables? any info would be great. thanks

have same boat..

just picked ur up a week ago. In process of replace'n steering cable. Let pb-blaster on it for couple days, finally threw in towel, and bought one, should be here day or 2.

For the pump, diagram dont show "neoprene seal", so you do decide to rebuild pump, guess use a tube of silicone.

For low speed steering cables...got me on that one, had to look up diagram to see that crazy cable set-up, and at those prices for cables, rather mcgyver a set of "Speedster" cables, than p*ss that much $$$ out.

For motor, make sure when reinstall'n the flywheel/magneto, you dont "pinch" the wires leading from housing, along with resetting stator assy accordingly, RV set at 147*, double check the oil injection...its all think of now...
