70mph on xpl?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to select a good prop for my xpl that might push me to the 70 mark.
Currently it will hit 65 on the lie o meter, but it's banging off the rev limiter. I think with a little more pitch I could pick up a few more mph.

My question is, has anyone done it and what prop was used?

It has a rossier pipe, carbon fiber reeds, stock prop and some carb work done to it. It has water injection on the pipe, but there's no timer so the bottom end kinda sucks until you hit 4500 rpm.

Basically I want to match a good prop so that it won't hit the limiter so much and maybe prolong the engine life a little.

What RPM are you hitting?
If you want a more accurate speedo with a OEM look, there is a $100 one that links between the paddlewheel and the MPEM, using a GPS reciever for speed.

I have one on my GTX, and it works well.

googling "Ben's Secret Mods for Seadoo 951" might be a good place to start researching.

I can't hotlink it here due to site restrictions but its out there :)

You wont hit 70, maybe a real 65 gps. You would need a better pump to maybe get a few more mph out of it.

Why would you want to go so fast on a 2-stroke??? I had the chance of trying a RXP 2015 260 HP (supercharged) this summer and I let go of the throttle when I reached 65. Way too fast and dangerous if you ask me. The owner reported reaching 77 mph with it (crazy).

I must be too old for that!

stock they are limited to 68 mph.
Why would you want to go that fast? Because you can. Why would you want a 200 mph car or a billion dollars? Just because.

Because of my stupid phone I clicked your post was not helpful accidentally, my bad, BUTT, our local head banging radio staiton used to brodcast "IF ITS TOO LOUD, YOURE TOO OLD", in this case I believe its "IF ITS TOO FAST, well you know the rest :willy_nilly:

I wouldnt want to go 70 on a XP but the new RXP-X is bad ass. I cant wait to get one, mod it and hope to hit 75-80 mph ;)

These old skis can go fast but their hull designs are not as advanced as hulls of new skis. One example: my GTI has its nose much lower than my friend's 4-tec. He never gets wet in wake boats waves as I often get splashed. He can definitely go faster than me just because of that. Don't know for the XP but I find this behavior very disappointing on my ski and for sure it must impact the maximum speed it can go to.

Or maybe I am just too old or too heavy...

for me, 74ish is about the max I prefer to go, I was on a 90mph ski 2 weeks ago and I backed down right at 67mph, got called a puss for that move but I dont' care, I prefer to keep my limbs in one piece.

The xpl actually seems to handle amazing going faster, it doesn't "skip" across the top like the older ones, it seems to cut in much better. Theres a point somewhere above 50 where the thing just carves the water like a knife. I enjoy knowing it can go that faster and Im sure it can. I'm actually impressed it can go as well as it does, but it blows out a bit on the accel, seems like it could use a bit more prop, the wear ring is new. That's really why I was asking.

I got slung off it about 5 weeks ago at top speed and my chest and kidneys still hurt!, def wouldn't want to do that again. I was looking back at a few other skis not paying attention for a split second and I'm not even sure what happened, assuming I wasn't in the correct body position and hit a roller.
Whats the speed of the stock XPL?
Im getting ready to toss in a set of moto tassarini reeds and see what that does to clean up the bottom.

Yea Spim, being right next to water, we often respond to "Marine Accidents" and at speeds that high, the water does seem to do some major damage to bodies...especially the older they get. 50 something female reliving her youth by being dragged on a tube behind a boat...I can say 40 MPH TOPS.. multiple ankle and foot bone fractures.

I am being dragged into a lawsuit right now where a friend is suing another friend because he was on his friends boat, the friend hit a wave at only about 15 mph and this guy's frail kit-kat legs snapped in two places, right below the knee on the left, and right above the ankle on the right... nasty...so yes, hitting the water at 70? no thanks

yip, fast is fun but it comes with some harsh realities if your one of the 10,000ish that suffer from a stupid or freak accident, bad things can happen even when you think you are in complete control.

with that said, I happen to agree with 92rs, the xpl actually seems to dig/carve better over 50mph, and at 60 its like a hot knife through butter on flat water, you actually feel more in control at 50 than 30. I owned an 02 for just under a year and I really really liked carving the river at speed with that ski and If there was more throttle left I would have used it. So I can understand why an owner would want to push 65+, when other models get squirelly, the xpl still feels solid.

Sounds like a bunch of old men complaining over their black coffee and newspapers.
A Kawasaki TS is as fast a ski as anyone needs.

At 42 mph, I seem to be going faster than the majority of the boats/pontoons on my lake (except for a few Baja boats and some guy with a pontoon that has 2x300 HP motors on it).

I can't see myself even falling off at 42 mph. I could handle 50 prudently. I must be getting old. Young ones do not know danger until something happens. I had a motorcycle too and I loved going to 100 mph when I was young. Never had an accident but I know of one guy who is in a wheelchair for life because of that (his girlfriend was marked for life because of that).

New skis are longer and more steady on water. Not older skis. Trust me, I see that everyday on my lake and experienced a RXP TC ski personally.

I run my RXPX to the 70 mph mark almost every time I ride it. I would never have dreamed of going that fast years ago. But, these SC, big HP skis get there so fast your going 70 before you can figure out if your ok with it. :D

Where you ride makes a big difference on comfort level. In bigger water, rouge waves come up fast & I have had a few close calls. I will only go WOT for a stretch if I am on a river, or smaller inland lake. accelerating from 0-60 is a hoot, so the extra 60-70 isn't that big of a deal to me, but its fun when only a few skis on the water can do it.

Hard to get them going top speed anyway on rougher water. they keep coming "unhooked" & the fun factor goes away.

My friend's RXP ski is definitely much longer than mine and with the nose is higher. It is normal I think that these skis will be more comfortable at higher speeds.
