My 95 GTX smokes quite a bit. When I bought it and did the first start up of the season and pissed a puddle of oil out. Have been running it now for several months and no leaking oil and no hydro lock but will still smoke out the garage if I start it. In the water, it smokes but not too bad.

Just rebuilt the carbs using genuine mikuni parts. Plugs get oil on them but still runs fine. Assuming that the oil on the plug is due to the oil leak and not that it is running too rich. Thoughts?? Also, checked compression with an OTC compression gauge and both cylinders are at 140. Not finding much around when to get concerned about compression. Is there a bottom end range that I should stop riding and go with an SBT? Just do not want to push my luck and wind up with a major core charge when I go to swap out with the SBT. I can get the ski up to 50 (based on the Seadoo spedo, have not used GPS to see actual speed)

sound like you either have an oil pump that is running wide open, or your inner crank seals and/or your RV seal is leaking. is it always worse at first start up & clears up, or is it smokey all the time?

I do not think it is the oil pump. Smokey when first started and pretty much clears up. Slight smoke after that but only see it at idle. More concerned over what a safe low end of the compression reading should be before I should consider yanking it and going with an SBT. Also looking for clarification that the oil leaking would cause the plugs to show oil fouling and not that it means it is running too rich.

What type oil are you using? Make sure you are using API-TC rated oil your ski can use either mineral or a synthetic blend, I would recommend a synthetic blend. I have seen SeaDoo's smoke using TC-W3 oil.

140psi compression is O.K., I would start to worry when it gets below 125psi.

If your burning that much oil, it sounds like its probably the crank seals, but still could possibly be the RV seal & thats repairable. There is definitely a greater risk of fouling the plugs burning that much oil. As far as compression, 140 each side isn't bad, but should be closer to 150. depending on your gauge, it could actually be higher, but on the flip side, all the extra oil could be giving you a few more LB's than what you would have otherwise. The bad news is, a leak that is that bad will continue to leak & fill the case every day. But other than plugs, its not really going to hurt anything.

The guy I bought the ski off of had it 12 years and bought it from a friend. He was using wally world 2 stroke oil in it. First thing I did was drain the tank, replace all the oil lines, filter and fill with Sea Doo XPS and bled the system. It has the DESS upgrade that was avail in 1995 and according to the dealer who scanned it, it was winterized last year with just 100 hours
