3rd mpem !!

Im helping out a guy via email correspondence and thats what he's told me so far.

Boat seems to work with a new mpem for either a week or a month and then the 5a mpem fuse blows. Says that after replacing the fuse nothing happens but when installing lanyard it pops the fuse.

The first mpem blew while accelerating. Replaced it and it worked fine for a month and then same thing.

Any ideas ?
Im not near a wiring diagram right now (@work lol) but im thinking something else is going on...

Thanks

With a ski, it is not uncommon for a bad or failing VTS to cause an MPEN failures. But,,, I don't think the Seadoo Boats had the VTS.

If it were me, I would TRIPPE check all connections by removing them, cleaning them, cleaning where they mount, and use dielectric grease when putting it back together. And to be honest, I would likely change other components such as regulator, stator and these type of components. Are they cheap, no. But MUCH cheaper than buying one MPEM after another..

Is the regulator seperate on this boat ? Or built into the mpem ?
Wish I had a manual handy :p

Sorry, I can't answer that off hand. If I get a chance, I will look it up. Minnetonka4me will likely know..

No problem Coastie. Im not at all familliar with this model either. I think that with a little more info it should be easier to narrow down the problem a bit.

5amp is for the "accessories" circuit...typically on the jetskis its for the VTS, gauges, etc.

With the description given, I would be checking connectors and all grounds. If that all checked out I would pull the mag cover off and see if the ground wires for the stator or the pickup are screwed up in there or if the pickup is grounding out from metal shards. Typically that would blow the 15amp, but you never know with electronics.
