I apologize in advance if this question has be covered previously... and welcome links to any threads on this topic..
I traded for a 2003 speedster with a bad Mercury 240. I’m looking into repairing the block as there is a crack in one of the cylinder sleeves that goes all the way through the water jacket that surrounds the cylinder. My question is: if this can not be repaired- can I use another Mercury outboard block as a replacement?... and which one? From what I understand- the biggest hurdle is the crankshaft splines being different ....I have a good crank from the old engine... is there a block I can swap this crank into without a lot of modification??
Any info you have to share would be greatly appreciated.

I've not rebuilt one of these engines, but from my research... there are many engines using the same Mercury 2.5 liter V6 block. If you are using your Sportjet specific crank... then any 2.5L block should work: Mercury outboards 150, 170, 200, promax 225(?) or the 210 or 240 Sportjets should all be the same block. Shouldn't matter (for the block) if it was carburated or efi.

Here's a link to block for sale... lists 'Mercury/Mariner V6 2.5L Carb & EFI 150-200HP 1991-2010'

Thank you. I appreciate your input.
I wasn’t sure if this was the same block they used for the 2.5L 210hp and 240sportjets..
I read somewhere that there are differences between the 210 and 240 blocks.
I’m hoping you’re right.. it certainly would
make finding a replacement easier.
I can’t imagine that someone hasn’t already tried this... hoping someone with hands on experience will chime in
