Before I begin this is a long story but any advice is welcome.....

I have a 2001 speedster with the optimax 240. Use the boat one to two weeks per summer. Bought it used in 2003. No problems with it until 2006 when it developed a stalling habit. Very rare but the boat would miss and stall at low speeds driving around the lake 10 mph. Would start right back up and seem like it was loaded up with fuel? Hit the throttle and it would bog a bit and clear right out.

This issue got worse and worse until it would stall a lot eventually getting so bad it was cutting out at speed 20 plus to wot? It went into the dealer for a complete tune up and a new fuel pump. This did not fix the problem.

Dealer then moved onto injectors which Tested ok, eventually putting in a new csi box? The boat ran again but has a miss that got worse the faster you drive. Keep in mind this has now taken us to 2008. I brought it back to the dealer with the miss complaint and they replaced a valve and said this was the only thing they could find?

2009 vacation got the boat in the water and the miss was still there!!! Lived with it for the week but it was a pain as any time you were hard on the boat it would miss for a second and keep on going. It would not stall but it was like it would cut in and out for a split second over and over about every second to as long as 30 or 40 seconds?

To me it seemed like a bad connection or electrical problem!!! However the boat did finally quit having to paddle in to shore. It would turn over but would not start. I thought finally whatever it is has finally failed or broken. Put it on the trailer and back to the dealer. As my luck had it the boat started right up on the trailer at the dealership and I put it away for the summer 2010!

2011 put the boat in the water and the miss is still there. Dealer took the heads of the motor and says that the oil pump has been failing and has damaged the engine? Now they are telling me I need a complete engine as the lack of oil has scuffed all the pistons?

Have any of you had an issue like this? Does this sound possible or is the dealer just lost and looking to bolt a new engine in with the hope that. This will fix my problem or that the giant bill will make me no longer want this boat? Thoughts please and thanks rob

2011 put the boat in the water and miss was still there made dealer come for drive

Why don't you rebuild the motor? It has to be ALOT cheaper to bore it and put 6 new pistons and rings in it. I'm not a outboard mechanic by any means, but I know guys that work on these things all the time rebuilding them. Some even sleeve them and bore them.

As far as your problem sounds like you've got a mechanic that is parts changing at your expense.
