I picked up a utopia that sat for a few years. I pump most of the gas out, then filled it up with 93 and added a marine water dissolver.. I also changed the water separator.. It has new plugs, and I'm getting spark.. When I turn the key I also hear the file pump work, but it won't start.. If I spray carb clean in the intake it will run, but it revs high.. I don't want todo that to many times though... Is there something else I could check?
Thanks

There's a lot to check.

We know you have compression and spark... so we need fuel. So... the big question is... do you have fuel pressure at the rail? There's a small Schrader valve on the regulator. Hook a gauge there.

Ok thanks!! What should the pressure be?

about 36 psi.

If you don't have pressure, check the high pressure pump, and make sure there is fuel in the vapor tank.

There's no pressure!! I checked it with a tire gauge.. Is that ok?
Where is the high pressure pump? Is there a fuse or something? When I turn the key, I can hear a pump running for a few seconds.

yes... a tire gauge is fine. BUT... the no fuel thing is probably the issue.

The electric lift pump is on the port side of the engine. (rectangle shaped) It only comes on while cranking. But the metal fitting on the bottom has a filter. It may be plugged up. I would replace it, and see if you can suck fuel up from the tank while you have that hose off.

Any one have pics of this filter, or s part #. Is a 2002 240efi
Thanks

This is the electric fuel pump and filter that is on the port side of the engine. It is the first fuel pump to supply fuel to engine. It does make a hump noise while its on but will only stay on while cranking then the mechanical fuel pump ( diaphragm ) takes over feeding the High Pressure fuel pump located in the VST.

Is this pump? Also is that black fitting with a arrow the filter?
I can't find a part number anywhere for that pump!!
Thansk

It is part #852521t 1 and the filter is 852546t. If you look on boats.net and type in your serial # from your engine, it will give you a detail and part #'s for every thing.

I change the pump, and it started for a sec then died.. I since to the vapor tank apart and cleaned it with carb clean, and now I can't get it back together!! Is the round thing with a screen on the bottom another pump?
