Hey Gang,
Testing out the trigger assembly on the beast, as the timing appears to be a few degrees off, with an intermittent misfire. Manual says test each coil and they test out @1250 ohms, well within spec. Had Junior wiggle the wires while testing resistance, and noticed the resistance bouncing around as he moved the trigger assembly.. should the resistance change as the position of the trigger changes?? Or is it time to pop the flywheel and swap it out??

Some after market triggers will test different values than the Merc spec. But- most important is that the 3 pair are the same, or very close.

Some of the old triggers had crappy insulation that crumbled over time. Junk. Time for new.

If your "wiggle test" is showing variable readings, there is an issue with the trigger. Many here have been using CDI Electronics triggers with good results and saving about $50 over the Merc unit.

Thanks Tim, yanked the flywheel off and look what I found... this one was the worst, but several trigger wires were crusty!

You can just replace those wires. If you are handy with a solder iron.
You can get quality wires with silicon insulation from amazon.
Consider this.
