I have a 03 Sugar Sand Tango with a 240 EFI. I've owned the boat for a few years but rarely use it. I took it out of storage a few weeks ago and noticed a few things. There's always been a slight stumble. Now it's happening more frequently and there's a clunking sound right after it happens (1st vid @ 13 secs). There's a rattling type noise that seems more prominent on the starboard side and behind the boat (2nd vid). I couldn't find anything loose so I have no idea where it's coming from. It also seems to be smoking more. I've included a couple videos below. What do you guys think? Am I just being paranoid? Thanks!

The only thing I can get from your vids, is that you have a second gen 240 engine.

I can't hear anything out of the ordinary on the vids. without a load on the pump... you will hear every rattle in the gear box, and pump. But one word of advice... unless you have a lot of pressure on your garden hose... the engine will get hot. The majority of that water is coming back out the pump, and not going to cool the engine. (just saying) So... try to not run it on the hose for too long.

Speaking of rattles... when was the last time you serviced the jet pump? Are we sure the oil is clean and healthy??

A "Stumble" is also normal since it's a 2-stroke. Without a load... the oil will "Load up" the engine. You need to put it in the lake... and run it a little to evaluate performance.

Anyway... go throw it in the water, and let us know what it's doing.

I appreciate the response Dr Honda. I've had to replace two engines in my cars over the last 9 months and now I'm just being paranoid with the boat. I never run it very long on the hose. I serviced the oil in the pump and stator at the end of last year. The pump oil looked fine but the stator oil had a small streak of green in it. I assume that was a little water in there. I'll get it in the water and see how it performs. Thanks again!
