I'm still sorting out issues with my boat to make it water ready, hopefully I can take it out a time or two before the summer is over..

Anyway when running it today looking for noises, it just quit. It acted like it ran out of gas, and after checking a few things here is where I'm at.

-New pump in VST is good and turning
-VST is empty
-New fuel/water separator
-Pick up pump is ticking like it should.
-Fuel filter looks clogged but allows liquid to flow through fine

When I turn the key for the system to prime, if I put my thumb over the pickup inlet i do not feel any suction, I feel the pulse from whatever is ticking, but no actual suction. Could it be bad even though it sounds like it should?

That's the only thing I can think of that's not working properly.

Sure it can. I would take the hose off the bottom of the lift pump, and see if you can draw fuel up from the tank. Then, put a short section of hose on the lift pump, and put fuel in a small can to see if it can pull it from there.
