I drilled what was left of this stud in the fiberglass and snapped two Easy Outs.

I was going to try and save the stud, back it out and get it welded - thread the repaired stud back in but it's just not working that way.

I see from SeaDoo Discount parts warehouse that gave me an exploded view of the area I need item #1 http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/seadooforums/showmodel.asp?Type=13&make=seadoojb&a=136&b=12&c=0&d=-HULL---ENGINE-COMPARTMENT.

This latch stud is just threaded in with loctite, no bottom nut or extra mount mechanism glassed in .... right?

Anyone else run into this or have ideas?

Thank you in advance,
Mike.

Yes... it's just threaded in, and has thread locker. But, here's some tips.....

1) "EZ-out's" are not for stuck, busted bolts/studs. They are exceptionally hard, and because of that... they are brittle. SO, if you busted the stud off, you will break the ez-out. (as you found out) The other side of this is... if you really stick the busted ez-out... you CAN NOT drill it. (Even with cobalt bits) Because of that... I always tell people to stay away from them. Your best bet is to get left handed drill bits, and use them on busted bolts.

2) There is only one thing to get good thread locker to let loose... and that's heat. (period) So... grab a little pencil torch, and heat that bastard to over 325 F. Once cool... I'm sure it will back out. BUT, be careful. don't cook the fiberglass. (That's why I like the pencil torch. It's easy to control)

If you managed to get the ez-out back out of the drilled stud... then you can heat it with a small torch... and then use silver solder to "Braze" in another (smaller) stainless bolt into the hole you made... and I bet you can use that to get the stud out.

Dealer said latch stud was discontinued but was able to locate some old stock in USA.
Waited for part to arrive and it was much too short - not what I needed :cuss:.

Bought a 10mil course SS bolt and had it welded to the original SS latch stud bolt.

Old broken bolt piece refused to budge from inside hull but to make a long story short,
Ground stud down and then drilled out from the center of bolt with increasing size bits until bolt fell apart.

New stud installed but now have to marine-tex repair all the fiberglass I drilled out / chipped out / removed to expose old stud.

Seadoo illustration did not show threaded aluminum mounting bracket under the fiberglass but it was there!

The parts diagram doesn't show the part... because it's part of the hull. (not available separately) But, I'm glad you got the stud fixed.
