Anyone run their 2012 speedster 150 260 hp with regular fuel ?
I run my RXT-X 255hp Seadoo with regular fuel and have done so for 5 years and it still runs great and is in perfect condition.

Cheers

Running great??? Wait till yah pull your head and see the condition of your valves. They'll be baked in carbon deposits ... I'll snap a few pics of examples and post later. I would not recommend regular grade in your RXT or your speedster. But its your boat you can run farm gas if yah want lol.

You are probably right, although I don't see any degradation in performance, or ill effects yet. I had a 2003 GTX 4tech 185 hp supercharged, ran it for 6 years on regular, sold it to my friend and he has run it for another 4 years on regular and it runs as well today for him as it did when I got it. My RXT also runs like it is brand new. Everyone, including the dealers have always told me that you can run it on regular, and that the only ill effect is that you will not get top performance out of it. My experience with the RXT and 185 supercharged would tend to back up what they are saying. Maybe I have just been lucky twice :) Also I can't get premium gas at our marina.

I just checked the manual too and it says you must run a minimum of 87 octane fuel, but that you can run anywhere from 87 up.
There is a little asterisk that states that 91 octane is suggested for optimum performance. So if the 87 would damage the engine why would the manual say it is ok. I would also assume since it says this in the manual, your warranty would still apply even if you ran 87. So if there was really an issue with it would Sea-Doo not say you have to run with 91 or higher or they would not warranty the boat because anything less than 91 would damage it ?

Don't get me wrong I am not suggesting you don't know what you are talking about but my experience and the Sea-Doo manual seems to suggest otherwise.

The reason I am asking is that I would like to run 87 in the speedster given the price of gas and that 91 octane will cost $10 more per fill up, but at the same time I don't want to damage it.

Cheers

$10.00 more per fill up is waaaay worth it in my opinion. With all the crap they're putting in 87 regular these days I'm not sure I want to run that crap in my push lawnmower. But back to our 4tecs ... I've seen first had what low quality grade fuels can do to the valves and while the 4tec is designed to stop at TDC (all vavles closed) when engine is shut off, if there is carbon build up over time on the vavles that would interfere with the seat you would be essentially allowing 100% humidity into your combustion chamber as water is still evident on the exhaust side of the engine. This is one reason, even detonation etc etc ... you can research it.

I'm not saying head over to Sunoco and dump the 94 in it or race fuel ... but just remember this is a high performance engine that spins closer to 4 times the rpm as your daily driver. Both your ski and boat have superchargers which mean a pretty tight fuel map .. if the mfg. recommends premium grade use premium grade.

I like to always run 91 in my snowmachine but sometimes its not available, I think this is why the mfg say min. 87 rec. 91
