Hey guys, I have a 2012 seadoo rxp-x 260. I bought it from a dealership for $500 because they said it needed a motor. I went ahead and bought it because it came with the trailer which I figured I could sell to get my money back if needed. The seadoo only has 41 hours on it. I put a brand new battery in it. it would then crank but wouldn’t start. I changed the camshaft sensor and it would start and run, but sounded like it was missing. So I changed the spark plugs and hooked it up to the water hose and it ran great. I took it out to the lake and as soon as I tried to accelerate, it would start beeping and went into limp mode until I turned it off. I would start it back up and same thing would happen. Has anyone seen this or know what it could be? I’m not very familiar with these high performance engines.

It could be a lot of things but most likely is that it is a sensor or ECU issue. If it ran fine on the trailer the motor is probably fine. You need to get the codes and not blindly guess at what the problem is.

I pulled the fault codes and it showed P160e, P1615 and P1611. Everything I’m finding says these are related to the throttle body. Does that sound correct?

Throttle actuator actually, fly by wire, ECM tells it what to do. Wiring, connectors, actuator or ECM is at fault. Perform closed throttle with BUDS. Replace throttle actuator, replace ECM.
Not sure why you don’t believe that it needs a new motor. You usually get what you pay for.

If the dealer sells it for 500 USD with the comment it needs a motor, most likely something expensive is wrong with the engine. You bought it cheap so if you are interested to know what exactly is wrong I would start with Candoo pro or BUDS.
If you are tough and not easily scared, just pull engine and open up and see why it needs a new motor.

I don't know of any dealer that would sell a 41 hour 2012 RXPX on a trailer for $500. It just doesn't happen. You could put a new motor in it easily and still make thousands of dollars even if it was beat to crap. Dealers don't stay in business by throwing away money. I'm sure there is a true story behind it and would be curious to hear about it.

By your fault codes I have a pretty good idea of exactly what is wrong with it, how to fix it, and why it happened.

This dealership has been know to make these kinds of mistakes and Misdiagnose different issues and thinks it will cost them thousands of dollars to fix it, so they just sell them for cheap instead. This has happened to a couple of friends of mine as well. They bought it very cheap from them and spent a couple hundred dollars and it runs like new. Why didn’t the dealership change the cam sensor and the spark plugs? If they had, they would’ve known that it actually starts and runs. If it needs a motor, it needs a motor. But I’m not convinced it’s a bad motor yet.

I like your kind of humour, questioning the dealer capability and than asking a question about the throttle body, I would not let you even swipe the workshop :)

Lol I’m not questioning their capability...that’s their reputation. They don’t have good mechanics or technicians. They are the only place in town so that’s how they stay in business. And what are you doing on here if you’re not going to help? Haha. I’m guessing you couldn’t answer a simple question, but hey that’s okay. [emoji6]

What is the name of this dealership and where is it located? What is the HIN of the your ski?

Good for you, I am not over confident in the story, true or not, not going to spoil the Sunday on it.
