2012 GTI 130 sports mode, no performace difference

Hi all, I have a 2012 GTI 130, I'm new to this and having a few issues.I struggled to get it into sport mode, it would say it was in sport mode "sport mode activated" on the screen but there was no difference, but I managed to a couple of times, and there was way more power. I've followed the instructions and I'm sure I've done it correctly. I was using the normal key, not the learner key.

The pwc tops out at 38mph, when sports mode did work it was 55mph but now its 38 mph regardless of what mode its in. It also feels a bit sluggish on takeoff 0-10mph.

First and easiest thing to try is new spark plugs.

You should be hitting mid 50's no matter what mode you're in.
