Hi, I purchased a 2012 C180 SE 215 hp this past winter, and finally got it out on the water this weekend - although it's still pretty cold! The boat started up fine and ran smoothly but it did seem to run very high rpm. The boat felt like it planed well and no noticeable lags or lurches. It just seemed like the rpm would jump right to 4000 rpm as the boat started to go; 20 mph about 6000 rpm and 30-34 mph at 7000-7200 rpm (with 4 adults in semi rough water). Any ideas - the boat is actually on the hoist up on the bay so I can't get to it for a few weeks but I'm trying to figure out what could be going on. My initial thought after reading the forum is wear ring, although many of those experiences seems like the boat won't go at all. My top speed was 38.8 with 3 adults on board.

After the summer I planned to get the supercharger rebuilt (the boat currently has 59 hours).

Thanks for any suggestions!

If you nail the throttle from a dead stop balls to the wall with 2 people it should not just sit still and over rev. Pretty sure that boat should reach 50MPH pretty easily but with any boat you add weight of people and gear, full large tank of fuel and they can be remarkably slower to plane.

Could be your jet pump needs some help, crawl under there and take a look at the impeller, especially the gap around the perimeter, should be in the tens of thousands inches (check manual for specification) if too much gap the impeller will cavitate and feel much like a slipping clutch. I guess in your case cavitation is happening and it's a fairly easy fix just takes time and PROPER, METICULOUS method.
