2011 Challenger 180 Slows when turning

My 2011 Challenger 180 slows whenever i turn the wheel. I’m sure this is some safety thing but it’s annoying. I’m taking the boat in to be winterized this week so if anybody knows a way that a mechanics can make this less annoying then I’m all ears!
 
All boats slow when turning because you have non straight line forces in action.

It sounds like maybe yours is slowing quite bit?

I always bump the throttle in a turn and the more you turn, the more you bump it.
 
Thanks for responding Mac. Previous to this boat i had a v6 sugar sand mirage se that never hesitated on turns....a far departure from this boat. I appreciate that inertia may be at play but it seems odd to me that i need to bump the gas to keep my speed the same especially when pulling tubers

We have experienced this with our 180 Challenger when pulling tubers. MacSeaDoo is right, it is simple science working against you. The chop on the lake can affect this as well. Not as noticeable on smooth waters.

Any boat with an outdrive or outboard turns by changing the direction of the driveline. The force from the thrust is still the same just enacted in a different direction as the whole outdrive is turned in that direction.

For jet boats the propulsion plane is fixed with a nozzle that diverts flow to facilitate thrust vectors. That diverting of the flow impacts the velocity of the flow. It is physics, and will leave you with less thrust the more you divert of disrupt the flow.

You need to compensate in a turn for this loss of thrust by adding more power to compensate or you will loose speed in a turn.
