Recently my Seadoo has developed some starting and random shut down issues. I have done hours of internet searches but I still need some help. So far I have replaced the DESS post with no luck on fixing the issue. Also, I have checked and cleaned the ground wires.

My boat will start fine out of water but will just randomly shut down while driving. Most of the time, I will reattach the key and the boat will start but it takes multiple attempts. Sometimes I get the 2 beeps and it will start right away, other times it takes up to 10-15 minutes of reattaching the key before I get the 2 beeps to start the boat.

At this point, I’m seeking advice on what to do next? Could it be that I need to have the key’s reprogrammed? Could it be that the red wires on the solenoid are connected to the wrong terminal? Thoughts? Here is a pic of the solenoid wires.

The lanyard could be your issue,,,it has a magnet in it,,,that closes the circuit in the dess post that has a tiny glass reed switch,,,you can do a resistance test on the key,,,I believe if the resistance is more than 10 ohms.,the key can fail.,,I dont believe it can be reprogrammed,,,so you would need a new key,,,and have the key programmed to your ecu.

Thanks for the reply. I do have 2 keys, both are doing the same thing. It seems odd that both would go bad at the exact same time though, doesn’t it?

I have the 07 Speedster 155 that had the same problem. I have the Candoo scanner and no codes would set. It would just shut off sometimes and usually, I say usually because a few times it would take 20-30 minutes, start right back up. I was on the Candoo forums and the consensus was lanyard, DESS post or VCM, in that order. Well I changed all three and still had a problem. Ended up being the ECM. Before I changed any part I pulled the wiring harness and cleaned and greased every connector, did not help. Been 2 years on a new ECM, runs great.

I'm having kind of the same problem right now. My Challenger 180 will start and drive without any problem. But the moment I shut it down, it will take me 5 to 10 mins playing with the shifter to get to start and it will start on forward or reverse for some reason which makes the boat super unsafe. I have been reading a lot about it and can't see to think or find what could be the problem.
