I’ve noticed over the years it’s getting harder and harder to pull back into reverse. Is there anything that can be done to make this smoother? I get it’s all mechanical but it seems like it should be much easier than it currently is.

Open to all ideas and suggestions

You also might find that your cable needs to be replaced. If you disconnect your reverse gate, does it move smoothly and easily? If not,,, you may want to change the cable before it breaks on the water and you have a real problem.

For what its worth my 230 is hard to engage both directions. The busings on my starboard reverse bucket needed lubrication. I found this out by taking the boat out of the water and manually moving each reverse bucket. The left one jiggles with play but the right was firm even after disconnecting the steering cable (which is brand new). Hope this helps as well. Its that or the cable
