Hi there,

I'm a newbie to this great forum and so is to the entire PWC, jet boat environment.

We are looking to get a 2010 challenger 180 4 tec 215hp which apperantly does not have a supercharger.

Although, I prefer the non SC due to maint, etc., I've never heard that seadoo made those.

Could someone confirm that non SC models were manufactured?
Is there any reason they stopped?
Should I be looking at the SC vs the non SC?

TIA!

I believe the 215 HP IS supercharged. The non-supercharged is 150 HP. We have twin 215s on our 210, and they're both supercharged.

I have the same boat as JPass and the 215hp engines are supercharged. N/A engines are the 155hp.

So I'm being told there were a couple of years 2010-2011 that bombardier made some without SC.

It doesn't exist on the boat, very strange.

Can anyone else confirm this please?

Also, what are the reprecassions if you suck in a tow rope into the jet?

All the 4tec Challenger 180's are supercharged. Take a pic of the engine compartment. You do not suck a rope into the jet because the result is death to the driver!

The fact that you said it was a 215 HP boat tells us it's supercharged. Supercharger is tucked down below the airbox on the rear of the motor. Not easy to see. Easiest way to tell if you're supercharged or not is to see if you have cooling lines going to the intercooler (copper colored barbs). It's on the front left side of the motor. See the lines in the pic below. Sucking up a rope can be a big deal depending on how far back the rope goes. If it got into a seal, then you'll need to replace the seal. Too much rope in the shaft tunnel and you can cause all sorts of nasty damage.

Thanks guys.

Odd as the current owner insists it a non SC model, which I prefer as there should be less maintenance.

I think the "plastic barring" was replaced and "everything was resealled".

How do you know whether the SC needs a rebuild? Or, at what state of its life time it is currently at?

Why don't you simply post a pic of the motor in your boat and we will gladly let you know if it's supercharged or not. I was told my boat wasn't supercharged when we purchased it and we come to find it was.

Not sure what you mean by plastic barring and everything being resealed? Maybe you can elaborate?

Supercharger rebuild schedule is 2 years or 100 hours. If you're not sure, you might as well rebuild it to be safe. It's $435 to rebuild if you remove it yourself and ship it out.
