Hey everyone,
I just got a Seadoo RXT-X.
I have a question regarding breaking in the engine properly. Whats the correct way of doing it? Any tips?

Also, What are the recommended service times that i should change the oil / bring it to the dealer for service?

Finally...If I keep the ski in a Warm garage all winter long...do i still need to winterize it?

Thanks for the help,
-Mike

Welcome to the seadoo forum Mike...uh when you spent all that money on your seadoo, why didn't you ask the dealer the preferred way to break in the engine? That is part of buying a BRAND new seadoo. It is stated that you should not exceed 3/4 throttle for the first 10 Hours of use. The seadoo requires the oil be changed and serviced at that time. After that it needs to be serviced at the 100 hour mark, or at the end of the season which ever comes first. The super charged units require the super charger be checked every 100 hours but it is better to have it done at every 25 hours. Try to avoid wave jumping and keeping the throttle maxed out after it jumps out of the water. It can cause the super charger washers to deteriorate quicker from the stress of friction of the water at high RPM's, on landing.

As far as a heated garage, that sounds great, untill the power goes out and it dips below freezing and ruins the engine from a freeze out. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck on your new toy.

The motor still needs to be fogged but these new 4 Tech motors run closed loop whitch means there is anti freeze in the block at all times so the block won't freeze but parts of the super charger and the exhaust need to be drained like posted better safe than sorry.

Hey Karl, thanks for the informative reply.

the reason why i asked was because im picking up my ski from the dealer on 5/15.. (still dont have it in my driveway yet).
My other question is:

What kind of maintenance do you need to perform after every ride? I know you have to flush the engine with the flush kit / water hose but is there any other tips that you would recommend?

Also...when breaking in the engine...3/4 trotlle = how much RPM's on the engine? Is it a safe bet to just keep it below 5000 RPM and ride on the beginner key for the first 10 hours?

thanks again for all the help.

Mike, what you should do when you do pick up the seadoo, is be sure you get the handy owners manual from the dealer. Have them explain exactly what is required for break in and have them show you exactly what needs to be serviced after every use. You're paying them a big chunk of change and they should be at your becking call on delivery to be sure you fully understand what to do.
If later you feel you still need some straight talk, we are here to help out. It is so much better to have someone show you and explain the procedure with the machine in front of you and they can answer any questions at that time. If your still kinda foggy, have then explain it better, or show you the proper way to do some basic service. Like I said, if your still not sure ask again on what you not sure on, and we'll be happy to help out. :)

hey everyone

picked up my RXT-X today!!! My friend went with me and he got the 2009 RXT (yellow color). When the dealer was taking his ski from the truck, they dropped it and scratched it with a forklift!!! =(

Anyway, the dealer was really nice and said he would have a new ski ready for tomorrow. =) :)

I have a question regarding breaking in the engine:
If you have to keep the throtlle 3/4 for the first 10 hours...what should I keep the RPM's at most? would 4-5k be a safe bet?

Any handly info would be appriciated.

thanks guys for all the help

yup 10 hrs of slow ... you can still open it up full but for stort periods (10 secs) then release and continue ..... its good to have a vari of speed when break in

does any1 know the typical range in nautical miles (approx) if you are going at cruising speed (30-40mph) on the jetski with a full tank of fuel (09' sea doo RXT-X)

I was checking out the spec's on the sea doo website but they dont post any info.

thanks

How often do you have to "top off" the oil on the sea doo RXT-X? Even though its a 4stroke engine, does it burn off oil making it necessary to check the oil before each ride and top off if its low??

I always open my hatch and check everything I can on my 200speedster. from oil, antifreeze to nuts and bolts...clamps. I bought it new a year ago last January, and always check it before I go on the water. Better safe than sorry.

hi there.......i am in the uk and i recently purchased a rxp-x rs 255... the dealer and his salesman had conflicting information when breaking in this new machine...and pretty much everyone else i ask they all say different things.......so please find below my questionable points and some others, as i feel i am not getting the proper information i need........

should it be 'broken in' with only the learner key for the first 10 hours..????

should i be switching between the learner and the standard key..?????

should i just use the normal key and just take it easy...?????

did i need to add 'seadoo injector fluid' with the first tank of fuel..????

the proper points and things to consider when flushing out the ski after a day out on the sea..???? i know about flushing out the exhaust system, but should i be spraying fresh clean water into the intake grate & then lubing up..???...

help me please.......these machines arent cheap and when they go wrong, that aint cheap either.....i just want to do the right thing......

thankyou please......

Hey, I have a 2009 RXT-X
Here is how im breaking the engine in: ( i currently have 5 hours as of today).

You can cruise around with a consistant engine speed of 4500-5000RPM which will take you around 30-35mph on smooth water.

Its ok to use the "Fast" Key. No need to use the learner key unless you give the ski to a child or an inexperienced rider.

Its OK to give full throttle (7800-7900 RPM) but DONT hold it for more than 10 seconds. Do this intermitantly.

Always remember to flush and ski after each use and also dont forget XPS Lube on all the jet nozzle parts that are in the back of the ski. This will help prevent corrosion.

Let me know if you have any questions.

the best way to break this machine in is deliver it to 115 oak street in Tarpon Springs Florida. I will break it in for you and deliver it back to you....

hehe....

Hey dude, too late...I already have 10hours on the ski. Bringing it to the dealer tomorrow for service :-) to be ready for the weekend
