Hi, I am working on my speedster,
I just put a new to me engine in it...

I have it running and it runs, I'm babying it
because I really don't know much about the
used engine I put in.

BUT after about 10-15 minutes of running...
it stalls out...and appears to starve for fuel.

I shoot starting fluid in it and it runs for a few
seconds and then no fire again...

ALSO, I forgot...it also seems to starve for fuel
at about 4000 rpm's...

So I figure the fuel pump is failing after it warms up...
it has 3/4's of a tank of gas...

When I get the boat home...about 30 minutes later,
it starts right up.

I haven't had a chance to measure the fuel pressure
while on the water...

I did read about 6 pages of fuel pump problems in the
forum...and I'm thinking of trying to hook up a T for
a gauge...

looking ahead...has anyone changed out the pump??
Do I need to take the engine back out to get to it??

Boy, I hope not...any feedback is welcome... :)

Fuel pump sits in fuel tank. Shouldn't be too difficult to swap. Definitely tee in a gauge before you start swapping parts. Check fuel pressures as she runs.

Thanks for the input...

Has anyone with a Speedster 150 changed out the fuel pump?? :)

Oh my...I just looked at my service manual...and it looks like
there is an access panel under the middle seat bottom...YEAH!! :)

Ok...just got the fuel pump today...you would think it would take LESS than a week
to ship it from around Tampa Bay to Pensacola... :(

Anyway, almost a direct replacement...had to work on the wiring...but it works fine.
No more dying...

But now it sounds awful...idles erratically below 1800 rpms...
has no power and intermittently has a loud popping...
I'm not sure where the sound is originating.

The supercharger should have steel washers...it is an '08 engine
and has about 74 hours on it...but I don't know what they sound
like working good or bad.

I did put new plugs in...took them out and put the old plugs in...
no change...the new plugs, 2 look good...golden brown...1 looks
frosted, like it was running lean or something...

I took out the fuel rail to see if that fuel injector was firing correctly...
it appears just like the other 2...all 3 seem to fire well...

It ran much better before the new fuel pump in this reguard...it idled well,
steady at 2000-2100 rpms...but it had power until about 4000 rpms when
it would starve for fuel...

what a bummer...

I had suspected the fuel before the pump and drained the whole tank...except
for the last few inches, that was before I knew about the access panel...
and I put in 12 gallons of new gas...and put in 1 bottle of red heat for water

so I think the fuel should be good...

any thoughts?? :)

Post a pic of the bad plug. White build up could be several things: bad gas, high heat, lean mixture, bad coil.

When you were swapping plugs, did you moved the lean looking plug to a different cylinder and see if the same thing happened to the new plug in the "bad" cylinder?

Were you positively running on all 3 cylinders?

Well...today was a productive day...

I don't know for certain that it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders...
But it wouldn't fire at all this morning after charging the battery.

So I decided to drain the fuel tank completely...even wiped as much
as I could reach with blue paper towels...then put in the new plugs...

Ran down to the gas station and then to the boat launch...
it fired right up, no hesitation and didn't show any signs of
sputtering or popping...so I tooled around for about 2 hours
on the water. It ran very well, didn't stall even once...
lots of power, although I didn't push it over about 6000 rpm's...

Speedo said I was going 30 mph, but it sure felt faster...
but who cares...it lives... :)

thanks everyone

Two things,, 4-tecs LOVE their spark plugs. I strongly suggest changing them first even if they are nearly new. When one starts to fail, it SERIOUSLY affects the engine.

Also, all SeaDoo boat engines are a year behind. So, if you have a 2008 boat, you have a 2007 engine...
