Maybe someone else has solved this problem. I'm trickle charging my battery and when I lift the fiberglass cover off the engine compartment, OUCH, I get little pieces of fiberglass jammed into my fingers. Anyone else dealt with this? Is there some coating I could cover this silent killer with? Thanks.

I don't see why sanding down the edges wouldn't help. Just wear a mask and cover up when sanding on fiberglass otherwise you'll be itchy for days.

You can also try some bilgecoat, but not sure how much it will reduce the sharp edges without some prep work prior to application.

Thanks JPass, but it's not the edges so much as the exposed fibers on the back side of the storage plate. They're orange, backside of the pretty white gelcoat on the top. I was gonna spray it with that rubber stuff, but I'm afraid the engine heat would heat it up and stink or smoke could be next... looks like gloves from now on. Can't believe I'm the only one this has happened to....

So sand the spots where you're getting poked. It's just fiberglass strands. Shouldn't take much to take the sharp edges off. Some 80 or 100 grit on an orbital should fix it quickly with a light pass or 2. Just take it easy at first until you get a handle on how much pressure is needed to remove the points.

Got stuck with one of those fiberglass splinters when I was installing cable for stereo remote. The finger got infected and had to go to the doctors office and have the splinter removed. It was about a 1/2 inch long and painful. Learned my lesson and wear gloves when dealing with unfinished undersides of the SeaDoo.

GLOVES Doh!
Same story here, minus the doctor's office ... I'm calling it the SeaDoo underside "silent killer".
