My Challenger 180 will start and drive without any problem. But the moment I shut it down, it will take me 5 to 10 mins playing with the shifter to get to start and it will start on forward, neutral or reverse for some reason which makes the boat super unsafe. I have been reading a lot about it and can't see to think or find what could be the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is a neutral switch located in your throttle assy. If the you are having issues starting and you say that sometimes it starts out of neutral, I would suspect either the switch or the wiring.

The Black/Purple wire on your starter solenoid is actually the circuit from the Neutral switch. This then terminates the the ECU on the other wire. If the neutral switch is open, there is no continuity to the solenoid when pressing the start button.

It sounds like to me you need to take apart the throttle control and check on the switch as it sounds like to me it is bad. Remember, this circuit is only relevant when the engine is off. Once it is running, it is irrelevant.

Thank you so much! I'm taking a look at it right now!

UPDATE!!!! The starter solenoid is going out! It's getting signal from the front (start switch) but won't engage the starter everytime and just clicks.20210805_131852.jpg After playing with it for a bit, I tapped it with the screwdriver few times and now engages everytime! Still ordering the starter solenoid and getting it replaced ASAP!

Thanks for all the help gents!

Neutral safe switch I guess was bypass. The shifter is being held in place with blue edging tape ‍♂️. Checking my starter solenoid now. 20210805_124837.jpg20210805_124828.jpg
