Hello!

I am looking at a used 2008 RXT 255 with about 180 hours on it. I have been informed and will be provided paperwork that the supercharger was rebuilt around 100 hours or so, which I know is critical.

So a few questions...would anyone recommend I remove the SC and just get it rebuilt or would the 200 hour limit be okay? The ski is priced fair enough where i feel it would be okay accepting the $400 upkeep. All in all the owner kept itvery nice for age and use.

Also, any general feedback about this ski in terms of reliable etc. would certainly be welcomed!

Thank you!

Jon

if its a long term purchase then the extra expense would be justified, especially if the 100 hour rebuild was more than 2 years ago.

I actually took my 182 hour 08 in for a SC rebuild and the tuner suggested just SC bearings ($50 !) but found a spiderweb of other issues that cost me $650.

I have the same model, my only complaint is that its not as maneuverable at slow speeds as I would prefer but that is offset by the fact that the last time I went out we got caught in 4 foot seas on the return trip and i was able to rip right through it like nothing, on my old ski I would have been battered for 15 miles of nasty crap. This hull Handles chop extremely well.

If you don't have experience tinkering with 4tec its a good idea to get yourself up to snuff on what to look for, learn how to check fluid levels, make sure the pump and ring look good, motor mounts are solid, etc. A little preventative goes a long way.

Also get underneath with a good flashlight and check the pump tunnel carefully for any spider cracks, the 08 has been known to have some issues with the tunnel being a little too thin.

Take a look at the tunnel. The 08 was prone to spider webbing (small cracks). The 09 does not seem to have this issue.

It's unlikely you need to rebuild it again after only 100 hours. You can check the condition of the supercharger, but I doubt it needs rebuilding before 150 hours. The following video will help check the supercharger (if you don't mind buying a torque wrench) https://youtu.be/PyCM8MpXDic
Good luck.

From my extensive reading, it appears the 2008 version of the 255 hp RXT has the least amount of BRP induced issues. Other than the potential tunnel issues it seems to be the year to buy. Congrats! I've been keeping an eye out for one myself.
