2008 GTX No Crank or Beeping

First, I am new to See-Doo so forgive my ignorance.

I have a 2008 GTX 155 with 3 hours on it. The problem is when I put the key in the Display comes on for a few seconds and then turns off. I can hear what I think is the fuel pump cycling every 15 seconds or so. It does not beep at all. It will not turn over. It does nothing. I made sure that the battery is fully charged. I checked all the fuses, no problems.

I thought that it could be the ECM, so I took an ECM out of a working GTX(not a GTX 155) and it responded the exact same way. No beeping, no constant Display, and it does not turn over. I took the ECM out of the broken See-Doo and put it in the working See-Doo and everthing works properly. It beeps when you put in the key and turns over. Both ECM's are Rotax Siemens VDO MSE 3.7 R/lb. Their are differnet numbers on the labels of the ECM's, but I think that is the difference in the tunes that are specific for each PWC.

I talked to the dealer and they said that you can not interchange ECM's and they will not work. That makes no sense to me.

When I originally talked to the dealership they said that if the battery was hooked up reverse polarity that it would fry the ECM. Not sure if that happened or not. When I took it in, they charged me $200 and said that the ECM is bad and would need to special order one from Minnesota(I think).

Is the ECM the problem?

I am leaning in a differnet direction.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

warranty

F-that...get ur money bac, and have them fix it under warranty. They're using the "card" of you mentioning you replaced the ecm with another one, and thats NOW the f-in problem.

Where you at in, CA. anywhere close to Hahm Motorsports, let me know.

Same Problem

I have 2-2007 GTI's, One started up, No problem. The other did exactly the same thing as you discribed. swapped parts from one to the other and got the same results.. Its been sitting for a month with a disconnected battery. After reading your post I deceided to try it agian. Connect the battery installed key and wholla! started beeping and fired right up. My guess is the DESS post not making a good enuff connection. maybe sitting through winter. I bet the newer ski's will all start having problem like this. I'm sure its a simple issue, but the dealer will try to make it a big one. Good Luck!!!

I will give that a try. Thanks

Has anybody else had any similar problems?

Does anybody have any other suggestions that might help?

Does anyone else have any advice on this? I have an 06 GTX limited and it is doing the same, took to the dealership, ran diagnostics, they said it was something electrical, i think they are just being a dealership trying to take my money. If anyone has anything more on this topic i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

DESS post...!

Yes, the DESS post is a tricky part of the equation here. The Lanyard cap has a ROM (read only memory) chip and magnet in it. When properly attached to the post, it closes the circuit after reading the chip in the cap and gives you two beeps when the ECM and MPEM identify it to be the correct key. If it's the correct key and you get no start, then you should get the key reminder beeps, which happens if the engine is not started within 5 seconds of putting the lanyard on the post. They are identified by 4 short beeps every 3 seconds until the engine is started.

If the cap is dirty or not making a proper connection, then this can be the problem. You can clean the lanyard cap with warm soapy water. Do not use any electrcal contact cleaner, as this might damage the ROM.

You can also have a bad start/stop switch. The 10 amp fuse on the MPEM and the 30 amp main fuse beside it should be checked.

You can check the start/stop switch with a Multi meter. Simply disconnect the wiring connector to your switch. Using a multimeter, you'll want to measure the resistance. With the button depressed, the YELLOW/RED and PURPLE wires should read infinite. When pressed in and held, it should show about 10 ohms......

There are several more tests that could be performed but it would take the entire night for me to type them up. The above are just a few of the things I've taken from the shop manual on the 4-TEC DESS system. It's very important that they lanyard and post communicate to the MPEM for a good start.

I read in you first post that the battery is fully charged. But be sure it doesn't have a bad cell or 2. the battery could say it has a full 12 volts but if the cells are bad it won't have the amps to start the engine or operate the electrical properly. Bring it to Auto Zone and have it LOAD tested for free. Also check the battey cables and the ground wire going to the starter area they all need to be getting a good clean connection. Sometimes the little things get over looked, and it just might be the problem. I have had batteries only 2 months old and drop a cell...no start or any power to power up the guages. I did my own load test and the battery lost 2 cells. Replaced the battery, solved the problem.

yea man, i have another gtx here, running fine, i took the battery out of it & put it in the nonworking GTX..still nothing at all. So its not that. So do yall think that re-programing the key would maybe do the trick here? It did sit in moisture for a while, but when i try my learners key, it does the same, so im thinking it really might the ECU?

Have yo checked the battery wires and the ground wire? It could be corroded ends. The ECM is kinda expensive to just replace.

Yea man i have another GTX, too the battery out of it, and it did the same thing, checked all fuses none were blown. Do you think it cld be any sort of relay? Ends of ground & power wires are all good.
