My 2008 Challenger has 28 hours on it and runs fine in forward and goes full throttle. I goes in reverse but the throttle only goes 1/4 of the way and does have reverse. Any thoughts on why throttle will only go 1/4 of the way?

thanks

When I test drove a 2011 model, I was told that it has a reverse limit switch to prevent full throttle in reverse.
I assume you may have the same protection.

in the 180 it's designed that way, it's normal. it was something i had to get used to when i upgraded from my challenger 1800 but it doesn't affect my day on the lake in any way. don't quote me on this but i think that i had read somewhere that it is suppose to reduce unneeded repairs to the buckets from going full throttle in reverse. something about the buckets and linkages breaking. i could be wrong but it does make sense to me.

:agree: They build em that way to keep it from over revving. It isnt actually spinning the impeller backwards, it is just a deflector that comes down over the nozzle and is redirecting the water. If it went to full throttle, it wouldnt go any faster, the water would just deflect differently and cause more turbulence and be very ineffective.

First time out in my 180 on the weekend and I've found that to shift from F to N to R yu need to bring the revs right down to nothing which adversely effects your steering. This made stopping at the dock real difficult.

Thats totally normal too, it will only switch from F-N-R while at idle. Once you get use to it, its not so bad. Its easiest to dock it with the engines at idle and just work the FNR lever back and forth.

YUP. I don't use throttle at all. F/N/R is all that is needed, & arguably that feels like too much power at the dock sometimes, at least with the twin engines on the 200.

I usually will shut down engine #2 and dock with only one engine....makes things a little easier!!

Thor - That's probably very helpful, especially near Newfoundland where you might run into icebergs........ :)
BTW it's a lovely place.
