OK guys this is my 1st post so bare with me. I have a 2008 230 Wake with twin 215 HP supercharged engines and the check engine light comes on accompanied by a 2 second beep when i get above 3000 RPMs on the starboard side. It seems to run fine with no noticeable loss in performance. I've check for debris in the intake and didn't see anything. I've read several post on various sites including this one and they have me leaning toward the exhaust temperature sensor. The nearest authorized Sea-Doo boat shop is about 2 hours away AND they have a two and half week wait until they could even look at my boat. Needless to say I don't want to spend the entire month of June without a boat. Any help would be much appreciated.

With that boat (which is freakin' sweeeeeet btw) and the dealership that far away ... I would invest in the candoo scanner. You can get it at the pwcmuscle.com link is on the top of the page. Greg the administrator here also informed me you'll get an additional 5% off for being a member here. Its a $400 dollar tool that allows you to scan your engines clear codes and also program keys, I've had mine for about a month and a half and its paid for itself about 3 times over already. Not trying to plug the crap out the candoo scanner but I would def. get it. It like 2 tanks of gas for your boat ...

agree with BMANN06....don't bother with the dealer if it's that far away, get the scanner and find out what it is!! Chances are that it is your exhaust sensor, you should just order one and put it in...I don't think they cost much at all.

Thanks for the heads up on the Candoo scanner. I was actually looking around the internet for something like that but kept running into people saying that only Sea-doo dealers could run diagnostics with the BUDS. For $400 I'm sure I'll get my money's worth with the boat and the GTI SE i have. I ordered it last night and already have an e-mail telling me that it will be here in 2 days. There is a dealer close by that has parts so if the scanner confirms that the sensor is bad then i can pick it up for around $60 and still be on the water this weekend.

Good call! Specially since you have a ski too! Its pretty much a must have tool for the DIY'er with 4-TECS ....

Can you post back if you have to burn two licenses (1 for each motor), the guys at candoo explained that I might have to ... but luckily both the ECU's had the same VIN/HIN # on my speedster, so I only needed to burn up 1 license for my twin engine boat.

Hey CrimsonTide, I have the same issue with my Speedster 150. It comes up with the code P0544, which is the exhaust temp sensor. I have to go to the dealer to get it cleared, unfortunately.

I see you are in Birmingham. I live in Hoover. What dealer are you referring to that is 2 hours away. I know the dealer I take mine to is on Lake Martin, which is about 1.5 hours, not that it makes that much of a difference. There is also Big#1 in Birmingham. Since you have the scanner, I guess you will not have to worry about that. And, your boat is pretty awesome. I wish I had the space for a boat like that. Where do you take it?

Thanks BMANN06 for the candoo scanner info.

BMANN06, as soon as I get the scanner hooked up I'll be sure and let you know how many licenses it used.

Dothadoo, I was actually referring to Russell Marine since they seem to be the only shop remotely close that is a licensed Seadoo boat dealer. Big #1 only works on pwc's because the boats take up too much space according to the guys I talked to. They can get parts at pretty decent prices. I really hate dragging that wide load all over the place which is why I decided to go ahead and buy the $400 scanner. We have a place on the Warrior river where we usually keep the boats. Where do you take your Speedster?

I keep mine at Lake Martin. BTW, Russell no longer sells the boats. I just found that out a few weeks back at the boat show. They will still service them, however.

Please let us know how well that scanner works. I am taking mine to the dealer on Saturday, so I will let you know how bad they take it to me.

The Candoo scanner came in today so I hooked it up this afternoon and verified my problem was indeed a fault with the exhaust temp sensor. Hopefully I'll be able to get the new sensor on tomorrow and be back on the water this Saturday.

Let me say that the Candoo scanner is an awesome utility that will probably save me a lot of money and headaches. I strongly recommend investing in one if you are a DIY'er or just hating getting raped by the dealer prices.

BMANN06, I hooked the scanner up to both engines and verified it only used 1 license.

Sweet! Glad you like it! If your sensor doesn't make it in and your jonzin' to get out, you can just short the sensor lead to ground (that will get rid of alarm). I've had experience with a few of the sensors in the 4tecs (oil pressures etc) ... Its kinda funny that the sensors fail long before the parts their trying to protect ... LoLz ...

Glad to hear your good news. Just FYI, I took my boat to my dealer today to get my Temp Sensor code cleared. The mechanic was the master mechanic and he not only cleared the code but also performed two updates while he had it hooked up. Now here is the part about dealer that you rarely hear. This was the second time I have taken a boat to him to get a code cleared and both times he did not charge a thing to me. That kind of thing alone is what keeps people coming back to a dealer. He didn't have to, but he told me what days he works and that if the code comes back up to bring it back to him and he will clear it again. This was the Russel Dealership, just in case you have to take it there, Crimson. I ended up having to get another sensor too, but as this day has been pretty crazy, I did not have a chance to install it and will not get back to the lake again for another couple weeks to try it out. Keep us updated and let us know if the replacement part works.
