can I just pin the 08 plug for the 11 and all will be fine, or will I have to change rear pto cover and use the 11 cps sensor and reluctor wheel/flywheel
TIA Jason

The 2008 and 2011 have the same 7 o'clock CPS position. If your mag cover has the 12 o'clock position cps then it's 2005/6 or older which then will need to keep that pto housing and you will need to drill a vent hole behind the CB gear. The 08 215 is a direct swap for the 11 255.

So it seems someone put an older crank and pto cover on this 2011 block ( has 2011tag on front of block)
The guy I bought it from it died on the first ride and is locked up, so it seems someone cobbled this together with a 2005 crank pto cover and and harness and the WRONG carbon seal and hat , could not fit the hat between the carbon and and engine output bearing they must have really jammed it in with no clip( I got it with pump removed so don’t know if clip was even in it)
So grabbed my original from 215 way way shorter and smaller in diameter outer edge , went right on perfectly
So apparently they had a lot of pressure on thrust bearing on crank and that locked up lower end
Your info was very helpful I made an adapter for the Cps to what I thought was original harness, just put my 215 harness in and plugged right in and even had a plastic notch on tops to retain awesome
I put my complete 215 in with pto ,harness and all so it should be plug n play
Ok tried to start and p0337 no crankshaft signal, I did ohm test the one in blown motor if I remember correctly it was .001 and this one in replacement was,9 something I’ll have to check but assuming I need a new cps
No other codes and all function properly when activated with candoo
Thank you very much for a reply I spent days taking ptos off and contemplating and deciding putting 215 back together and going with the 7 o’clock cps ,

The 2008 harness won't work in the 2011. When they switched to iControl a few things changed even though they look similar. The only thing completely interchangeable is the engine itself from 2008 215 to 2011 255.

I thought they only changed the 2011rxp rxt to new hull but not the rxpx which this is
Correct me if I’m wrong

I’m have the old style ecm 665861 664965 and did continuity tests on the pins in each harness of cps wires
Tried to upload pic but no go

That was the first you mentioned it was an rxp which was the last model to use old electronics except for the boats which are always at least a year behind. That CPS code is one of the few that can be finicky meaning you have to clear it with BUDS and then get it to start. The CPS should be between 700-900 ohms per the manual but most are around 940 ohms.

sorry I thought I mentioned posted awhile ago
So my sensor is good
The candoo can’t clear I cleared a few times but came back , what if I clear it then disconnect the battery for awhile
Thanks for the help thought I’d never get it

Are you sure that the old crank was a 2005 and they didn't just use a PTO cover they had laying around? I ask because that requires the mag cup to drilled for new alignment hole which will then throw your cps timing off and throw that code because it will no longer be in sync with the camshaft sensor.

The left one is the locked up 11 255 with cover off right is 08 215
The left one has some rust and there is rtv oozing out all around lower case doesn’t look factory
I’m assuming they used an 05 crank
Tape represents the gap

And I didn’t use any parts from bad engine at all just complete 215 engine
I just used a new gasket and put 215 back together the way it was

Both of those PTO housings are 2005 and older. A newer one will have the CPS at 7 o'clock.

Wow what’s up with seadoo !!! This motor I’m using came from a running 2008 rxt 215 with 60 hours that sat on a floating dock fried top corroded ride plate n pump housing from original owner with all original paperwork and maintenance records not used for past few years oil was changed just before they stopped using n cylinders were in great shape
Got it cheap
Changed pump with a spare did compression test got 150 145 150 drained n put fresh gas in ran perfectly fine ,so I’m totally confused what they had another clocking like 8 o’clock
It should still work if it runs the only difference is the 255 intake, 255ecm,and pwmuscle reman 255 supercharger that came with rxp ( he thought it was the supercharger)

I just went on eBay and looked at pto housings from 2006-2016 sensor hole is in the same exact spot as the one I have
Between two case gussets below bolt hole by dowel pin hole 05 and down no hole
But that’s neither here nor there, the question is it ran fine so it should run , I forgot to put the sensor in and had a hard time getting it in after engine was installed and used a pry bar too get it in and probably damaged it, cause when it was out it read 9 something and now reads 420

Sorry, was on my phone and must have looked at the same pic twice. You do have the correct 7 o'clock position PTO cover on the 2008. The sensor should measure between 700- 950 ohms. If it doesn't, replace it.

For all to change the cps pull valve cover run tube along side timing chain to bottom siphon oil from pto housing about a quart and disconnect muffler and it’s accessible
