Hey, guys, I have a 2008 150 Speedster SCIC (215HP) and since new I've been having issues with lack of speed/thrust. I had it back to the dealer for this and other issues 3 times in the first month of ownership (the first time was after less than 2hrs use) but they say they found nothing wrong ie no damage to the impeller or wear ring. Yesterday I hit the magic 10hr mark so since I was past the break in period, which I followed religously, I decided to see what it could do WOT. Well, on a smooth 9km/5.6 mile lake the best it could do from one end to the other was 39mph at 7720 RPM. Right off the bat I know there's a problem because the spec's provided by BRP state it's supposed to hit a max RPM of 8000, but that aside I find 39mph for a top speed (even at 7720 RPM) on a 15'5 foot boat that only weighs 1500 lbs and has 215HP at it's disposal ridiculous. I should be seeing 50-55mph easily.

Anyway, long story short I am asking those of you that own the same boat give or take a model year to post up what you're getting for RPM and top speed at WOT asap so I can print it and show up at my dealer with some proof that my boat is not performing as it should. Thanks.

Hi there fellow canuck,Had my 150 sportster(155 hp) out last week on a lake with 10-12" waves, and it did 49mph all day at 7000rpm(gps).It only read 37mph on the boat speedo.

Did you say you had the 10 hour check done already? If not chances are it needs new spark plugs..Most dealers change them at the 10 hour mark as they get fouled from the slower RPM's encountered at breaking...

Going in for 10hr service tomorrow (I have 11.? hrs on it) but it runs smooth no missing, no rich exhaust odour, starts fine, etc, so I'd be surprised to find out it had fouled plugs. Especially since I was running it WOT for pretty much the last 45 minutes of use which should have cleaned up the plugs under normal conditions ie nothing mechanically or electrically wrong.

Don't get me wrong I'm not arguing with you KustomKarl if a set of plugs fixes it that's great but in my mind plugs don't explain why my max RPM is 7720 rather than the 8000 RPM that's spec or a 15+ mph loss in top speed when there's no missing, hesitating, surging , etc,. It actually runs really good except for the lack of thrust/top speed and RPM.

Personally I'm thinking impeller to wear ring gap out of spec but the last time I had it in the dealer for lack of power and some other stuff they missed on the PDI they said there was no damage to the wear ring so.....but I doubt they actually measured the gap. Not to mention that doesn't explain the lower than spec max RPM (7700 rather than 8000).

Oh well, like I said it goes back tomorrow and now that I know it should be doing at least 50mph I'm refusing to take it back this time until they are able to take me out on it and show me that it is performing as designed.

I had my 2008 Speedster 150 (155hp) out and have hit 50mph gps (57mph on speedo) at 7400 rpm on calm (cold) water with just under 500lbs in the boat (plus a full tank of gas). Yours definately sounds slow.

I hit 49 (indicated) on my boat last night. Thats in a Challenger 180 (much heavier) with half tank of gas and 300lbs of bodies. Water was fairly choppy too. I only took it up to 7200 rpms.

Seems like yours should be much faster than mine considering the lower weight.

I have 29 hours on my 2008 150 speedster 215 HP. Since the 10 hour service I have been in all kinds of water conditions and the results are always the same, 50 mph top at 7000 through 7850. It will pull a skier through the course as well as a Ski Nautique. Low end torque is exceptional. All performance results remain constant no matter the load in the boat or the water conditions.
Lots of fun to drive, solid ride and throttle response, just a little suspect of the top end mph and rpm.

If the wear ring or impeller were a problem the RPM's would be high and no top speed. This seems to be a rpm problem. It might be a sensor might need adjustment. Ask them to put it on the B.U.D.S,(Bomabarida, Utility Diagnostic System) to see what turns up on the check up.

Keep us posted.

Im having same problem... I use to be able to bring up the RPM's to 8200, but now it redlines at 7700 exactly. I was doing 39MPH at 7700, so it doesnt seem like it's impeller related. If feels like the computer has put it in some kind of protective mode...is that possible? I have about 10 hours, maybe less on it... never ran it hard... just a couple of full throttles, I dont think it's a supercharger washer. Any ideas anyone?

Did they forget something?

He's a funny story. I had the same problem so I took my 150 into Hamn Motorsports to see why the damn thing was so slow. It turns out, there's no supercharger OR intercooler on my boat. Looks like a mistake right from Seadoo, stickers say 215 and it even has "supercharged" on the motor, just no actual unit. I even had a 500 dollar 10 hour inspection ... how they missed that is beyond me but I'd ensure you have an actual supecharger on the boat. As for everyone else ... what should I do??? I have yet to hear back from Seadoo. Do I l;et them put a sc on it or do I demand a new boat. That 10 hour break in was a bitch!

Even without a supercharger the speed should be better than 39. As I mentioned before, I have now hit 51 (on GPS) with my non-supercharged 2008 Speedster 150.

That said, you appear to have been taken a couple of times. First when you bought what you thought was a SCIC Speedster and second when you paid $500 for your 10 hour service. What did they do for $500?????

That's the best part! I got prices from 250 and up but went with the most expensive because they said they checked the supercharger to ensure it was bolted down and running correctly. This has been a crazy ride. I'm Canadian (living in so cal) so I want to stick with seadoo but they're making it difficult.

SCIC Speedster!...

Your 215hp Speedster is equipped with a intercooled supercharger from the factory.

You say you don't have one?........I find this hard to believe. I know this may sound stupid, but are you sure you know what your looking for. If it's 215 hp, then it's supercharged.

IF for some reason, it's lacking the supercharger, then if it were me and in my opinion, I'd be getting a lawyer. That sale was a mis-representation of what you bargained for.

Your paper work, from the dealer should also state the fact that it's 215 hp or that it's supercharged. If you are positive that it is not, then you need another boat. I don't know that I'd accept them just installing one on my boat.

I'd seek legal advice. That supercharger increases the value of your boat by several thousand dollars..........

Regardless of whether they put a supercharger on your motor, drop a new motor in or give you a new boat I think your going to have to redo the 10hr break-in. Well maybe not if they just drop a charger on there. I wouldn't want that option though. For me it would be a brand new boat. I wouldn't want one that A) a mechanic slaps a SC on or B) they pull the motor and put a new one in. Either instance requires a lot of work on a brand new boat that was completely misrepresented.

In addition to a brand new boat I would be demanding a free 3-5 yr warranty for all my trouble. This shouldn't be too hard to get if you mix in the right amount of anger/frustration/understanding/acceptance into the procedings.

Man, that is a horrible story. I'm really sorry to hear you are having to go through this. Dam Canadians :D

:agree: I agree

Hey guys, yeah, it looks like a new boat is coming my way. Hahm Motorsports here in Cali are the ones that said it's missing the supercharger. Seadoo is being pretty cool about it but are sort of dragging there feet. I hate lawyers ( was married to one and lost my ass in the divorce ) but if they don't speed things up I'll need to hire one. Sometimes just a letter on a lawyers letter head speeds things up a little. It's such a fun boat even at the slower speeds, I can't wait to feel it supercharged!!!

I pick up my new boat 215 with wake tower tomorrow. BRP ROCKS! They take a while to rock but they eventually take care of ya.

Holy Crap. Its taken 4 months to get you the boat you paid for what 6+ months ago?? I can't believe you had to wait that long. I would have been apoplectic if they made me wait a month much less 4. What took so long? Did you continue to drive your non supercharged boat the whole time?

Did they do anything else for you to make up for this unbelievable screw up? Sounds like maybe you got a free wake tower. I would be DEMANDING my $500 back for that 10hr inspection too.

Don't know if you saw my thread, but I bought a new 215hp Labor Day. Took it easy for the first 10 hours, and took it in for service. At 11 hours the blower disintegrated. Took 3 weeks to get parts. Got it back in the water and was running down the Colorado river when the dash lit up, no oil pressure and the engine shut down. Back to the dealer and they said the oil pressure sensor was bad, I showed them the invoice when the blower blew up and they had changed the sensor, they said it must have gotten plugged. I reminded them this was 2 breakdowns in 12 hours running time. Next one and it is a new boat....Arizona Lemon Law extends to PWC and boats. Hope you have better luck than me.
