2007 Speedster Hot Water in Bilge

We have a 2007 Speedster 150 with the 215 HP motor. Boat runs fine, but we recently discovered that hot water is being pumped out from the bilge. Is this a common condition?

I spoke to a SeaDoo Mechanic who informs me that this is not a normal condition. He claims that it is either the result of a leaky coolant line or a bad pump seal. I am going to drain the bilge this evening and then take a good run to see if I get an additional accumulation of water. There is not supposed to be water in the bilge unless of course it is as a result of burying the front end or from rain. Obviously the water in the engine compartment will heat as a result of being under the motor. The question is how did the water get there in the first place?

I already resealed my cover thinking it could be the culprit, but the weather has been so crappy here there always seems to be rain seeping thru the cover.

Ok with the boat tie to the trailer with ALL tiedowns back it in the water and start it up. MAKE SURE that the water is deep enough so you dont suck stuff into the pump. Now with it running look in the engine bay for any signs of water coming in. Look at the carbon seal. in the pick the carbon seal is in that rubber boot, flip up the one piece of rubber and look for water spraying out around the drive shaft.

Hot Water in Bilge

Joel,

Thank you for your response. I was going to drain and run the boat last night to see if it was taking on more water. When we pulled it out and opened the drain plugs it drained for over 15 minutes. Obviously you are on to something. I forwarded your post to my mechanics who are going to attempt what you suggested.

Thanks!

The water that was in there could be coming from the carbon seal or a number of other places so look everything over really good. Also reason its hot is just from the engines heat. when i drain water out of mine after a good run the little water that comes out is always hot.

2007 Seadoo Sportster Water in Bilge

We found the problem. The water in the bilge is due to a structural failure below the port side drain. There is a major crack in the hull that runs from the metal grate where the grate is mounted to the hull to the port side drain. I am dropping it off at the dealer for an inspection. It should be a warranty condition based upon where it is located, but having talked to Customer Service it sounds like they will look at a way to get out of the repair. This boat has 13 hours on it and is used primarily as a tender. It has not been abused in any way. I am not sure based upon where the crack is located that it will be an easy repair. It is certainly structural so that a cosmetic repair will be temporary. It may have to go back to Seadoo which basically will end our boating season. I am not happy!

Sad Day

I tried to take pictures with my cell phone but they weren't coming out. The crack runs from the bottom of the port side drain hole to the bottom and across towards the grate assembly that is under the pump and attached to the bottom. My suspicion is that there may have been a flaw as a result of the assembly process on the inside that found its way to the weak point which is the drain area. The service manager at the dealer did say that to properly repair the area the pump assembly would have to come off. The question is how saturated with water is the area? Hopefully I will get a response from Seadoo in the next day or so. The service manager took footage to send to them. We will see. In any event stay tuned.
