Hi,
Bought my Speedster new a couple of months ago (currently 12 hrs old). Was finishing up on the lake towing the kids on the tube. The infamous rope situation occurred but I was just starting the engine when the rope got sucked up and wrapped around the shaft...I cut the engine immediately when I heard something strange. We could not pull it free but after getting the boat home and cutting the rope free, I noticed that the grate itself had both bars cracked free at the back end of the grate. I was amazed that the rope could brake the grate so easily...
Anyone know how much a new grate costs and is it easily replaceable. Is there any other unknown damage I should possibly be aware of with this type of damage. The rope wrapped to the front and we were able to pull it back down the shaft in order to cut it free. Is there any type of seal to the front of the shaft that should be in place or is there nothing there?
Thanks in advance.

Grate

I did the exact same thing last weekend. I was able to cut one end off of the rope and unwrap it with no damage. However, one of the grate bars was broken at the back end.

Grate Repair

Don't just unbolt the old grate. The front bolt is "glued" in place. I tried and snapped it off. Big repair at the shop

Don't do what I said, it won't help. Do what Tomm said in the next post

There is a lock nut inside the hull that is on the front bolt of the intake grate, it is covered in rtv, peel off the rtv and take off 13mm lock nut then unscrew front bolt from bottom of boat. The 3 rear bolts you can take off from bottom of boat very easy .
