2007 Speedster 150 (215) heavy steering

Good Morning,

Just bought a 2007 Speedster, been trying to figure out how hard the steering wheel should be to turn. Seems heavy to me, in and out of the water. Takes two hands to turn, and at low speeds there is a lot of turning to keep her straight! Anyone have experience with this and have ideas where to start? Cables, steering box, etc? Thanks ahead of time! Looks like a great forum here
 
Disconnect the steering cable from under the helm and see if the steering wheel turns easier (it should). Reconnect it, then disconnect the cable at the steering nozzle end and turn the steering wheel again. If the steering is still hard, it is more than likely a worn/binding cable. If the steering nozzle doesn't turn side to side freely when the steering cable is disconnected, you may have any issue at the nozzle (corrosion or bend).

lube the steering cable (marine grease, behind the helm and at the nozzle end before it locks up completely
 
If you find it is the cables, they will need replaced. Eventually they will break and you will loose steering.

I know you can grease the ends that stick out, but how do you get grease to run all the way through the cable? On motorcycles there's a tool for this, but the cables are much shorter and easier to lubricate.

if the corrosion has got inside, new cables are needed. usually its the helm end, but water can get inside the stern end and corrode the inner and outer cable.
