Im new to the SC rotax engine.
I got a great deal on This 07 1 owner 102 hrs SC was just rebuild and new SS propeller and wear ring were installed. it planes nicely and does 47mph with 3 adults.
I always owned center console boats 2 stroke engines and they were loud and smoke a little.
This rotax is also pretty loud and also smokes just a bit I called local dealer they said a little exhaust smoke its normal??
Also when wot from idle it seems to have a little cavitation but it planes fast. I was reading about carbon ring leak in some other models. Is some cavitation acceptable or should I look into it ? Only had it out a couple of times.
When go slowly to full throttle wont cavitate at all.
Any inputs?
Thank guys
Adrian

I have an RXT no cavitation and my challenger does cavitate. Still working that issue. I have always eased up on the throttle on the challenger as the boat is like three times the weight of the jet ski. So it could be a slight leak at the carbon seal.

The smoke you see if really steam from the exhaust.

Thanks for the help. It seems common on the challenger to cavitate for what I heard but just a bit when take off. But like you wrote I still believe it should be a way to correct that. Maybe just that carbon ring that I don't even know if they do have it. Hehe

As above, the 4-tech engines do not smoke. My skis don't even have steam I can see.

Boat are heavier and have a larger surface area. It takes more to move them and yet they have the same engines as the skis. So a slight loss in performance is not unrealistic.

So should I have it check if I see any bit of smoke whatsoever?? It only did it when starting and at idle.

My new 2009 180SE had a 2-3 second hesitation/cavitation at WOT from stop. I learned on this forum that others had new ones with same problem but was fixed under warrantee - after a fight with my dealer mechanic which I had to escalate to BRP - the mechanic fixed it under warrantee - the problem was an incorrectly sealed ride plate. A 7 hour job so you may wish to live with it - there is no guarantee that that is the problem anyway. However it is one possible cause FYI.
