2006 sportster 215hp seems slow

6000 rpm max speed 40, 19 hrs on boat took in trade seadoo website says max rpm 8000

any ideas were to start

Well, supercharger comes to mind. Squeeze the output tube of the supercharger and see if it is stiff/boosted...and do you hear the supercharger whine?

6000 rpm do seem like a supercharger issue
take off the tube and put you fingers in and see if you can spin the s/c vortex wheel ,if you can your supercharger is bad.
rebuild it.

i have heard that the bearings in superchager come apart and get into the engine, if it spins freely is that the case?

Well, mostly clutch failure.....they are ceramic.

Well, Seadoo says every 100 hours. 300+ for a full rebuild kit parts.

100 hrs .for rebuild ,sporsterjoel is in the know on a chap that rebuilds them
but look on the riva website for prices if you are thinking of doing it yourself btw it is not an easy job.
the clutch washers break down and enter the engine and cuase untold damage .
have you checked your s/c for washer damage?
