Aaaarghhh!

I just recently purchased a 2006 sea doo challenger and it will not start. I charged both batteries and they read 12.6 volts. Install the key, get 2 beeps, pause then four beeps but still nothing. According to everything I've read states an issue with neutral switch. So I turned power off, cut the black n blue wire, wire nuted together and still nothing. Get the same beeping sequence of 2 then 4. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Can you hear a click from the engine area, when you try to start?

If memory serves me correct, the 4 beeps is exactly that, the neutral safety switch.

I would have to pull the schematics to see if wiring together can bypass them. But I'm betting it takes more than that. Could be wrong, just seems like there is more to it.

If Dr Honda is around he can shed some light on this for sure.

No, it didn't click. Pushed the start button in and nothing. It started three weeks ago just fine. Makes no sense, no sound other than the beeping.

Just to help to ensure a few things, jump the solenoid to make sure it cranks. If it does, it proves that the battery, starter and all the connections are good.

If not, you are chasing the wrong issue.

However, the fact you are getting four beeps I do agree that it is a neutral safety switch. But it is worth doing the solenoid test just to make sure..

I had issues with mine starting. I can start mine in forward or neutral. I guess the neutral safety switch has been bypassed on mine. Not sure of that.

1) When you put the key on, the fuel pumps pressurizes the fuel line. Does that happen?
2) When you press the start button the starter should engage. Sounds like that is not happening.
3) Have you checked fuses in the engine fuse block? On the right hand side of the motor compartment.
4) Have you checked fuses near the pilot's seat? Under the console to the right.

I bypassed my neutral switch 4 years ago, when it went out I was not getting any beeps whatsoever. Lights, blower etc all worked so battery was fine, but no beeps when I put the lanyard on, and no tick at the starter solenoid.
Before I bypassed it, I was able to rock the shifter back / forth through F N R stopping in N a bunch of times and 1 out of 10 times it would start, maybe try starting while holding a little pressure on the shift lever toward the F or R position? If it starts that would be an indication that it is in fact your N switch. Good luck!

So the I still have the black and blue wire tied together for the neutral switch. Checked the battery voltage again, 12.6 and 12.8 and still nothing. So I figured I would jumper across the starter solenoid and it fired right up. Shut it down after about 5 seconds, and attempted to restart normally. No start and still getting the 2 beeps, a pause and then 4 beeps. (which everything I have read is an indication of a faulty neutral switch) Anybody have any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

That would be awesome! I just checked ALL the fuses with my Fluke, all checked good except for the Nav fuse. Lol! I do hear what sounds like the fuel pump cycling/pumping when I install the key but that's it.

I pulled the 06 specs but the pictures are not to good.

Let me do some more digging. I have seen the NSS be both an open and a closed switch. It could go either way. Someone will know off hand, but I need to look at a schematic as I don't know off the top of my head...

I am posting two pictures. You can cut and paste them together to form a better picture. So if you have the wire joined together then the starter should start.

neutral switch part 2.jpg

There might be an issue from somewhere else in the boat feeding onto the circuit.

So if I can start the boat in settings other than neutral that maybe why my weedless system does not work.
