2006 Islandia - Engine Compartment under water - water got into the engines

I am writing this because my brother owns an Islandia. His is a 2006 with twin engines. Unfortunately, I am the one who does all of the work on it because he doesn't do that type of work. A few weeks ago, another brother of mine was using the boat. He called me the next day and said that the engine compartment was full of water. :banghead: The engines were covered. We eventually got it up to the shore and pumped the water out. I checked both of the Rotax engines and there was water in the oil. I pumped out about three quarts of oil from each engine and put new oil in. The oil became creamy again. I discovered that water was in the intake manifold and removed as much of that as possible. Both engines are no longer throwing out water from the cylinders when I have the spark plugs out. Both engines will now run. My question is should I run the engines with the creamy/milky oil, or try to change the oil again before I run them for a normal "outing" on the lake? Also, I am considering adding some Sea Foam to the crank case to see if this will eliminate some of the water in the oil. Do you have any advice for me? I don't want to ruin the engines, and I am trying to save my brother some money by not taking it to a dealership. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

Tony will answer your question.
where are you in Michigan?
See below for "Michigan Here" thread

Stop fire up the engine, I'd bring the boat to the dealer to let them handle it, the milky oil will ruin your engines for sure.

I live in Wixom, but the boat is on the west side - South Haven area. Thanks for the recommendation for Doc Honda. I sent him a message.

Seadoobuddy Thanks for the info. I actually go to church in White Lake. It's only about 15 minutes from my house. I haven't heard back from Dr Honda yet. Hopefully I will hear back from him soon. I actually came across the state today to do some work on the boat. Any thoughts about the water in the oil? I can change it again and see what happens. I have a feeling that until I get all of the oil out, I'm going to continue to get the milky oil. Thanks again for the heads up about using the @ symbol. Dr Honda

It's going to take a few oil changed to get it clean. DO NOT run the engine past idle, until the oil is OK.

So... get a few filters, and a case of crappy dino oil from your local autoparts store. Change the oil... run it for a shot time, and repeat. When you can run it (at idle) for a minute or two... and it stays clean. Then, you can change it one last time, with good oil.

Dr Honda I tried to give you a thumbs up by clicking on the green thumb to the right of your reply but it said I gave you a thumbs down. I'm sorry. I don't know how to change it. The little icon is gone. If you can tell me how to change it I will. Thanks for your help with the Islandia. I bought a couple of gallons of oil to start with more oil changes today. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again.

When you click the green thumb the icon changes to a Thumbs Down option. It is a bit confusing but it basically allows you to undo the thumbs up.

I'm with Doc...

After it sat with water in the blocks I am impressed they are running with what seems to be no damage.

You need to do as Doc said. Nothing over idle until you get nice clean oil. Then you need to get the boat out for a nice long (minimum 30 minute) run at higher speeds to get the engines up to full temperature as well as warm the engine compartment. This will get rid of residual water and get the engine to normal condition.

There is a chance the oil needs changed after the run as the oil will be under a higher pressure and may move hidden water...

Coastiejoe Thanks for the reply. When I try to click on the thumb to give a thumbs up, it changes it to a thumbs down. There is a green thumbs up and a 0 next to it, but I can't get it to a 1 next to the green thumbs up. Is this because I am new to the forum and unable to give thumbs up? Oh well, I tried. I did change the thumbs down back to a 0 thumbs up for Doc Honda. Thanks. I also wanted to say thanks for the advice about the engines. I have some more oil changes to do, but hopefully things will all work out. Take care.

Thanks Doc. I appreciate it. I was wondering if you could recommend a brand of oil and what weight for the twin Rotax engines. I'm using some inexpensive 15W 40 oil to do the changes right now, and will change it with a better brand of oil before it is stored for the winter. I'd appreciate any advice you can offer.

I just tried it with your post.

If you click on the green thumb it should change to a number 1. Which it did for me. You can "undo" your thumbs up by now clicking on the red thumb that just came up. Others will still have the green thumb option until they also click on it and then the number will increase and they will now see the red thumb if they wanted to "undo" their green thumb.
