Hi folks. New to the forum. My first posting......

two weeks ago I bought a 2006 Challenger 180. Everything working fine except the other day, after a day on the water, I was heading back to the dock. I was it at full throttle but decreased speed upon my approach. when the throttle was about 1/4 way the boat sounded a long beep and had no power when I increased the throttle again. the volts light came on as well. I turned it off and put the DESS on again and away it went.....took it out today and same thing is happening. sometimes after I restart it is boggy and have to restart again.. May have to do it a couple of times before it is back to normal. It only happens when throttle is in same position. Seems like a voltage issue to me. Anyone have similar issue or got any ideas where I should start looking for the problem. Thanks

Have you looked at the electrical contacts for your boat. They could be corroded. I have been fixing some of my connectors.
I bought this guy and while most of too big, what's there does help: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FLEET-TECHs-ELECTRICAL-TERMINAL-MAINTENANCE-SET-IPA8048-/161384116635?hash=item25933e319b&item=161384116635&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr

So go find your throttle body and pull the electrical connector and inspect it. Let us know what you find.

Also read through this thread and you will find info on the throttle body position sensor: http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?72366-1-engine-revs-slower-than-the-other

I checked the volts and resistance on the TPS connector from the ECM. All readings are between the suggested in the shop manual. Check all plugs and cleaned up the terminals on the battery. Took it on the lake and after 10-15 minutes the boat went into limp mode again around 3000 rpms. Just wondering if the boat is getting hot and another sensor is failing. The engine light or temperature light is NOT coming on only the volts light when it goes into limp mode. Is there anything else to try?

update........after been back home for an hour or so, I decided to start it up for a few seconds...now the temperature light stays on and it gives a long beep.....Help!

Thanks

This is when CanDoo would be very helpful, but since you don't have it. Check your oil level when the boat is warm and make sure it's below the high mark.

I still wonder why the volts light comes on in this case. Have you checked the charging circuit?

I don't understand why the temperature light is coming on now and continuous beep....the engine hasn't been going for 2 hours or so....might be why the engine feels hot.....

coolant seems fine, not sure if anything else is faulty and stopping it from getting through the motor. I was thinking it was the thermostat too....have a scheduled appointment to have it put on the computer for diagnostics.. will let you know

Have you ran it on a hose in the driveway. There is a specific procedure for that. There is a high pressure take off from the pump that cools the exhaust system on the boat. That could have gotten clogged. Check the lines in the engine too.

Having a very similar problem. Volts on all day. Then came in to dock. Went to grab trailer. Come to boat to start and got a temp light and limp mode. Sat for 2 hours. Still on and in limp mode.
