Hello-

I'm growing tired of dead battery situations once I drop into the lake.

Has anyone done a dual battery upgrade on a speedster 200? If so, can you please give me some details of your installation? I am looking to do a isolated battery setup with a house (radio) and separate starting battery. Is this feasible?

Also, are there and typical issues with the 4tec engines that cause the battery not to charge properly? I run my boat a good distance every time I take it out but it seems like if the boat sits for 2-3 weeks without use I end up with a dead battery again. Any thoughts?

How old is your battery? Have you tested it to ensure it's good? More than likely your battery is on it's way out, otherwise you may have an issue with the charging system. You can always have the battery load tested to ensure it's still good. You can also check to see what the voltage is at the battery when the engines are running to see if the system is charging.

Either way I suppose an isolator switch with 1 agm battery setup to run stereo and lights for long hrs and a lead acid with cranking power to start engine should be okay .. just like it would for a 4x4 with dual battery setup.

There are a few options. I have a dual battery switch that replaced the single battery disconnect. This doesn't give you a true starting / house setup, but it does give you a separate battery to start the boat. I have a group 24 for the starting, and a 27 for the second battery. I usually just select battery 2, the 27, and go. Now that I have updated the stereo, I may add another 27.

I'd recommend installing an onboard charger as well, I just did this. The 4tecs don't generate alot of power for charging.

I have a dual batt setup in my 04 Speedster 200. Uses a switch with Battery1, Battery2, Battery 1+2, or Off positions. Agreed what everyone says about the board charger for in between trips.
