hey guys

just bought a 2005 RXP with 50 hours but every time i take it out soon as i hit the waves and give it a squirt the oil light come on, display says oil. goes into limp mode. once i turn it off and on it goes away but im to scared to use it. took it into seadoo seaford (melbourne) they changed the top oil sensor, i took it out again and exact same problem. turn it off and on, all good but this time i gave it a thrash in the calm river for a couple of minutes and the light didnt come back on.

Any ideas? they said theres no error code logged and they only suggest checking wires !!! quoted me 10 minutes to 10 hours!!

also they changed the lanyard pole cause they said that was broken but yet they started it in front of me when i droped it off!!

I took it back and they changed the oil sensor back and refunded my money but i dont really want to take it back to them.

any ideas where to take it in melbourne??

could it be the bottom oil sensor??

what does the top oil sensor even do??

how much should this cost to fix??

thanks for the help guys

the front and rear oil switches fail all the time and that does sound like your problem. the oil switches are about $25-$30 each and it takes 5 minutes to change the front one and 30 minutes to change the rear one(faster if you've done them before). $80 - $100 parts and labor to change them both is reasonable.

Yes, I knew from your description that the problem was the rear oil pressure switch and not the front one. Your dealer should have known that as well.

To answer some of your earlier questions. Let me explain further...

The rear oil pressure switch monitors the actually liquid oil pressure of the engine that we are all familiar with in all 4 stroke engines. If you get an OIL warning on your display and the RPMs drop to 2500. It means either your engine has low oil pressure or your rear oil pressure switch has failed. I've changed lots of rear switches and have yet to see an actual oil pump failure but it should be checked to make sure the pressure is adequate using a gauge because this is a serious situation. (I have seen someone forget to put oil back in after an oil change and this warning went off).

The front oil pressure switch monitors the air pressure in the lower crankcase and entire sealed oil system. This works in conjunction with the TOPS valve that it is located by and prevents too much pressure from building in the oil system area. Remember, the pistons moving downward also create air pressure on the bottom side of the piston. The failure mode of the front oil pressure switch is a check engine light and limited to 5000 RPMs with a P1202 engine code.

Hope this helps!!

Quick question...... when removing the rear oil pressure switch, do you run the risk of engine oil oozing out of the opening? Are there any precautions to take when removing the rear oil pressure switch?

What are the precautions to take when removing the front oil pressure switch?

The only part of the protocol that I'm familiar with is to use Loctite for the threading.
