2005 GTI. In clear water at the weekend pulling an innertube. Horrible mechanical noise and propulsion loss. Towed back. The shaft has become disconnected internally, I think in the flywheel. I can rotate the shaft which appears to be OK but as I turn it there is the feel of teeth slipping or teeth passing over each other. If I had to guess, I would say this is in the flywheel end.
Any ideas? I would really appreciate some input

The flywheel is on the MAG,(magneto) end of the engine...toward the front. The PTO, (Power Take Off) is toward the rear. It sounds like the splines are striped and needs the shaft replaced. Take it apart to check it.

Shaft Broken

OK. Now that we have identified front from back.....that is a good start Many thanks. Is the repair pretty straight forward and intuitive, or a disaster for the amateur?

I suggest you join as a "Premium Member" so you can down load a seadoo service manual to help with the repair. It cost like $10.95 for a month, and you can down load the manual and print it off,or read it on lin as a pdf. If you want a free look at the break down go to our "parts" link, at the top of the page for a look at the parts and assemble required. It's not that big a deal and we are always here to help you out if you get in a jam.

All right then. Looked at the drawings and have a question. The PTO detail is missing. It's faded and not detailed so I cannot tell what part(s) are associated with that end of the shaft....
