2005 C180 Rpm Sudden Drop

Our last trip out the boat started to drop rpms. It would get up to about 6k and drop to 2k. You could feather the throttle back up and get past 6k, but randomly it would drop back to 2k again. Any suggestions on things to check first?

Since it's an EFI engine... I would be pointing my finger at fuel pressure. (assuming you don't have any other errors)

Is there a way to get the error codes given the 05 has analog gauges?

To get the actual codes... you need a scan tool. But you would still get an error message.

So I'm guessing by error message it would be the check engine light? or is there another way it would show errors without the display? Check engine has not lit up at all.
