Hey everyone , new to the forum and looking for HELP. I have a 04 utopia 185 with the 200hp optimax, boat has been running fine, until today, was cruising the lake when suddenly i developed a bog while cruising, just happened for a second but gave me a bad feeling and immediately heading for home, 20 seconds later at 40 mph, boat just died. It barely restarted and ran very rough and stalled about 20 times, would only run at idle and run very rough, sometimes it sounded like it cleared and idled normal but only for a few seconds. barely got it home and now at dock wont restart at all. I know there is issues with lift pumps etc but was hoping to get some ideas as to how to diagnose. Also did not get any beeps or warnings, just died. Any help would be appreciated.

Dr Honda is the local resident on the Merc powered boats. He is moving things around in his life right now. Give him a day or so and he will likely get back to you.

The DFi engines are a little harder to diagnose than the others. BUT... what have you checked so far?

With a 2-stroke engine... I always start with a compression check, then move to fuel.

BUT... since your engine is very reliant on the senders... it highly advised to have someone hook into the ECU, and scan it for any codes.

Compression check is 120 on all 6 cyl, fuel pressure is 90 psi at the rail, was told that the filter going into pump may be slightly clogged causing a good pressure reading but low volume. Is there anyway to post a small video on here to show what's happening ?

Unless the DFI engine is different, 120 psi is time for internal engine work. If everything else is perfect, it CAN start at the 120 psi range, but like I said, everything else needs to be near perfect. 135 is a normal good running area. 150 psi is perfect.

Again, I assume the DFI engine is the same as the others. Doc will straighten me out if I am not correct.

On the Merc engines... 125~135 is normal.

OK on the fuel pressure... but did you check the air pressure too?

Ok so found that my lift pump is not drawing fuel up from tank. Actually it's almost blowing air out instead, I removed the hose on the pressure side of pump and it sucks just fine , all 3 pumps are appear to be working, when I remove the hose off the second pump , ( long skinny ) have tons of fuel and pressure there. Where could I have a blockage ? I removed a plug of the fuel pump housing and fuel poured out . Any ideas ??

If you can draw fuel up from the tank... you can get a primer bulb, and just bypass the lift pump for testing. If you have prime the system with the bulb, and it runs... then you can replace the lift pump.

Ok got boat to start almost every time, runs for about 10-20 seconds , stalls and gives 2 beeps , beep beep , beep beep, anyone know what this code is ? Looks like what ever it is is shutting down my injectors , lots of spark but no fuel? Anyone got a match !!!

Like I said above..... DI engines are totally computer controlled. You need to plug into the system, and see what the error is.

I have the exact same boat and engine. I have the 200 DFI Service manual. If you PM me your details I can send it to you. I could only find the 250's here on the site.
