I'm interested in a 2004 Utopia 205 I've located a dealership a couple hours from me. Price seems amazing.

Highlights:

$9k
< 75 hours
excellent condition
trailer isn't in fantastic shape (not an issue with me)
part of estate sale

At $9k and low hours, this seems like a steal.

Assuming I drive up to take it out on the water, what do I need to watch out for? I owned a boat before (25' Wellcraft walkaround) but I rarely used it. Consider me a novice.

Compression test for sure, water testing that's great if they let you.

There are several threads on this subject this season... and 2 of them are on the first page. So... with a very quick look around, you will see what you need.

But there basicas are......

1) Go for a water ride. A crappy boat will start without a load. AND... it may take a little time to get the problems to come out. (like over temp, and starting issues)

2) It should start easy, and restart after sitting for a few min when warm.

3) Check compression. (Looking for 125 or better)

4) Low hr's is almost as bad as high Hr's. If the boat is used infrequently... then the internal engine parts aren't getting oil, and will develop rust. Also, there is a chance of minimal maintenance being done, since it's not getting used. So... if you buy it... go over EVERYTHING.

Good luck with the buy.
