Looking to buy a 2004 Utopia 185 with the 200hp M2 Optimax engine. Overall the boat is in good shape, very clean, supposedly low hours, etc. I lake tested this weekend and it ran great and I'm taking to a Merc dealer this week for a full check of the engine. Couple of questions:
- The guy who is selling it has done nothing to the boat with regards to maintenance (except he replaced the fuel pumps because he did not put stabilizer in it one winter - which taught him a lesson and he has put stabil in it ever since). The boat still has original plugs, filters, etc. Boat ran great during lake test - no vibrations, acceleration was crisp, no cavitation. Anything I should look out for, knowing everything I just wrote?
- The only real cosmetic issue on the boat is a scrape on the bottom of the hull. It is about 3 inches long and clearly has gotten into the fiberglass, but not all the way through. There was virtually no water in the bilge after an hour of lake testing. Is a scrape like that something I could fix myself?
- He is asking $11k for it. Seems like it's about in line with NADA values, but I don't know a ton about the real marketplace. Assuming the engine checks out, do you think this is a good deal?
Thanks for any and all advice.
