I was out for a ride today and my check engine lite came on - followed by the 2 second buzzer. I was able to get home but could not go over 4000 rpms and 10 mph. I checked out my shop manual and the boat went into a safe mode which explains the speed. I have checked the oil, coolant, changed the plugs and all the connections, but still no luck.

Before I take it in, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, since our boats do not have the digital gauge cluster there is no way to talk to the computer and get the codes without having your own computer connection system that the dealer uses. You can buy your own, candoo pro, for about $400 but not sure it is worth it.

You said you checked all the fluids, where was the oil level? It should be right in the middle of the two bends on the dip stick. Any higher and it could trip the alarm b/c of too much oil pressure. If not that, go ahead and check the condition of the battery and even take it into the parts store and have it load tested. If not those simple things, it must be something more serious and the dealer is the only one who can accurately diagnose the check engine light. Let us know how it goes, and I would be curious to know what you eventually find to be the problem. Good luck!

Well,
My oil was a bit high - and I was able to vacuum some out. I was able to check the battery and it is ok. I also changed the plugs and took it out for a ride. The check engine light has not come on and it seems to be running well. I am still going to take it in to get checked - Just to be safe.

I will let you know what the tech says. Thanks for your help with this.

If it is convenient to bring it to the dealer and have it checked, it will not hurt. But if the dealer is a hassle to get to then I would not worry about it unless the engine light comes on again. It is very likely that too much oil caused the check engine light, so now that you pulled some out you should be good to go. Happened to me once as well.

Anyway, glad to hear it was something simple, have a good rest of summer!
