Hello,
I just sold my 2004 sportster boat. The guy placed it on the water, run it for 30 minutes and blew up the engine. He brought it to a mechanic and he told me that rod made a 3-inch hole in the engine base. Mechanic told me that the only reason for this would be jumping out of water with the full throttle. The guy wants me to pay for the repairs, but I think it's all his fault. Any opinions?
Thanks.

That would not blow the motor, might wear it out faster but will not blow it. Only time ive seen one of these motors throw a rod is cause it injested water. tell the guy to take a hike.

hi i can relate to your problem unfortuneatly im on the other end!
i bought a 2005 sportster and it blew after 5 minutes but the guy i bought it off said in the add it had only done 23 hrs on the buddy system it had done 48 also with the water ingestion you can tell if this has happened take a look at the oil also the buddy system will be able to read the last recorded rpms of the boat and will give a print out of rev range before fail if you see constant peaks on the print out it will be wave jumping !
ask your own mec to go and read the boats mpem for this info.
hope this helps.
