I just purchased a 2004 sportster with 90 hours, boat was a fresh water boat, It looks like brand new, I did have to completely clean and drain fuel system and I rebuilt the factory fuel pump completely and filters and boat runs awesome now, My questions are this since I am new to seadoo and having been a polaris ski owner for 15 years, What needs to be changed or looked at besides the oil which was changed and the plugs before I purchased. What are these boats notorious for having issues with. The impeller and ring show no sign of wear.
thanks
Scott

Just regular maintenance, oil change, plugs, etc. and have fun. You have owned a jet ski for 15 years, so you know the routine. Had a 2003 Sportster for a year but found it a bit cramped for space and traded up to the Challenger 180. More then twice the space and suited my needs much better. Good luck with your new Doo!

I agree with rcguy. Just take care of it. Check your fluids before each outing. Keep it cleaned up. Don't let little issues turn into big problems.

I have the same boat but a 2005; about the same hours. I use non-ethanol gas which turns out to be available only as premium but this eliminates most of the 'stutter' at rpms below planing speeds. If your rig sits for several months unused I would add a stabilizer, especially with 'corn gasoline.'

FWIW, with one person I can hit 50 mph on the gps unit, stock impeller.

Also mark the hose you need to clamp off if towed and get some cheap long-nosed vise grips and cut two section of hose to slide over the teeth and pad the pliers if you have to pinch the hose shut. With no (easy) way to clear the intake you will get weeds or worse stuck in the impeller or shaft.

Do you have images of the correct hose to be pinched for a Speedster 150, as I could only find the ones applicable to the 255 Turbocharged, which has a different engine compartment layout. This' been bothering me for years. Thanks in advance for help!

Oil Level, do NOT overfill the oil on the 4-tec engines. It create crank case pressure and the engine will lose performance and you can blow internal seals.

Also, the 2004 to mid-2006 used Sodium Filled Exhaust Valves. With a fresh water non-SC'd ski, they fail at a MUCH lesser rate as compared to Saltwater use and engines with SC.

If one was to fail, it causes serious engine damage and can easily cost into the thousands to fix. Again, not as common with fresh water use and non-SC'd engines, I am simply telling you so that you are aware of this.

You can removes the valve cover and confirm which you have is you have a desire to do so.
