:ack: So i read the very first thread....I tried the Search engine but did not come up with much.

I have a 2004 Speedster 200 with the twin 310 HP. The left engine is throwing a check engine light. I dont do dumb thing and open the hood and make sure engine is still there. But i do check and make sure there is no smoke, smells etc... I cannot seem to locate anything typical from my knowledge. It sometimes when I first put the boat in the water and drive it will pop up, but sometimes after i shut the engine down and look, i start up it wont come on again. Other times it will come on after 20-30 minutes of driving. No other lights are coming on either. It is not very consistent so i cannot figure out what it could be....

So now for the question...

1. Is there a way to figure out what the check engine light stands for - even though it shuts off when i turnt he engine off?

2. Does anyone possibly know the problem (besides me being a dumbass) and a possible solution?

Anything would be great to know because i am planning a trip soon down to the coast and would like to haul it down there for some fun - let alone the nice warm days around the lake here.

Help is greatly Appreciated!

Thanks!

- One more thing...anyone have any problems with the throttles not staying on the controls...i have to keep my hand on the throttles at all time to keep them from going back to idle....any tightening screws anywhere?

Do we not have any more information on a simple check engine light? No way to test? How do i even begin to describe this to a mechanic if i cant do it myself? I want to do it myself, but i may be pulling the entire thing apart!

HELP!!!

cant help with "check engine light". Think the dealer needs to hook up to computer.

The throttles going to idle, remove the lever assy, and you'll see a black flathead plastic bolt/screw. Tighten that up some, til the starboard lever has some resistence when throttling. The middle(port) lever, lift assy little higher, and you'll see a chrome phillips screw, directly in the middle of lever assy. Tighten that up til the middle lever has some resistance.

any luck?

I am having same problem on my 2004 speedster 200. One check engine light comes on at different times and limits rpm to 5000. Turn off engine and can turn right back on and will run fine for any where from 3-15 mins before beep and check engine light comes on again. Took in and was told they fixed it by changing water pump, but it is still doing it and now dealer is avoiding me. So was wondering if you had any luck on finding out the problem with your boat. Thanks

I finally got mine figured out. It was exhaust temp sensor.

Very Very simple fix, if i had the computer to be able to look it up, then it would have saved me a bunch of money.

I have noticed that some of those sensors down in the engine compartment are very easy to break or crack if you happen to climb down inside it. And alot of those sensors will retard the engines in general.

I hope that yours is a simple fix!

part number

Thanks for the information, I have climbed in and out of engine compartment a number of times. Do you happen to know the part number of the exhaust temp sensor you replaced?
