Just bought the boat and all the gauges in the cluster don't work. All fuses have power. The tachs, speed, and fuel guages don't work. Please help. Any know loose ground wire connections?

I have the same exact problem with my 2004 Speedster 200... No tach or speedo. Does anyone know if there is some quirky electrical issue with these particular models?

Today I check all the fuses and connectors again. The gauges all have power and ground. Question, is the signal wires suppose to have ground of power signal. Because the Tachs on mine both has power going to the signal wire. Please advise.

2003 Utopia , Same Problem, dash guages do not work

fuses seem fine but entire drivers dash board guages do not operate.

Help please!

Ron

Is it just your gauges too Ron, or all indicators as well? My indicators all work (Engine lights, fuel gauge) but tach and speedo's out.

This could be a switched ground signal, which would pulse the line with ground. I don't know how the signal looks coming from the Rotax engine, but usually it'll be 1 Pulse/Rev, which drives the internals of the gauge. I'm considering building my own tach, so I'll find out soon enough...haven't decided on the details yet. Maybe a digital read-out with a LED bar underneat or something....

Anyway...this sounds like a popular problem on these boats...anyone know the cause?

I've got a 2004 Sportster and the Tach and Speedo aren't working either. I assumed they have a limitted life-span.

Also...will a standard automotive tach work in these boats, or are there any other less expensive options to replace the existing modules if they are fried?

Well, I took the boat to the dealer since last week Tuesday and as of Friday they had no answer. After this wednesday, thinking I'll just repair it myself.
Before I took it there I had power and ground going to the tachs, but the signal wire has constant power, is this correct?

Is it possible to tap the wires off the ignition and run it straight to the tachs?
Please help need to get this boat in the water this week!!

So, I picked the boat up on Wednesday, the dealer had no answers for me and kept making excuses for not fixing the boat. Anyways the gauges still don't work. Any ideas that could help me?

Wow, no answer from the dealer!

Was this a SeaDoo Dealer who couldn't fix their own product? If so, that is totally frustrating. Im gonna spend a day attempting to troubleshoot my guage problems next weekend. I'll let you know if my amateur skills turn anything up.

Ron,

I've probed around on mine quite a bit. The signals all seem to be working fine. I get around 180Hz at idle on both engines... Seems a little high. I'm assuming 5-pulses per rev (since that's what the tach's are set to), which means idle at around 2000RPM...does that sound right?

Speedo same deal...idle speed (4mph on GPS) gives 16Hz, 8mph on GPS was around 30Hz. Seems like about 4 pulses per mph on the speedo.

I'm about ready to just make my own gauges...I really don't want to get OEM so they can break again, and I can't find any standard tach's that support 5 pulses/rev or 4 pulses/mph

Any updates, did you get the gauges to work? I didn't fix mine, I just enjoyed the boat for the summer and will get it repaired hopefully for the next season.

No repair here...I did as you and enjoyed the boat for the summer...made skiing a bit more difficult since we were always trying to find the right speed by "feel" but not too big a deal.

I haven't figured out how I'm going to fix this yet... I measured the signal coming into the tach's and speedo, and they both have solid pulses coming in, so it's definitely the gauges. Not really wanting to spend $250/gauge to fix it...anyone find any decent replacements?

2004 Utopia Guages Don't Work

My 04 Utopia is doing the same thing. Tach and Speedo don't work. Did anyone have any luck finding a solution?

2004 Utopia here... Same problem. Fuel gauge and speedo died. Then Tach. I'm hoping to use a replacement gauge of a different part number. Much cheaper.

'04 Speedster Elect Gauges and Functions Out

Anyone find a solution to this, please? Seems common, also seems like dealers stumped as often as owners. Yes, this is noob 1st post, but semi-decent wrench here and have searched this and other forums.

All lines attached and all fuses good in both driver cockpit and rear. Engines fire up and run fine, just no gauges, lights, horn, stereo, or bilge pump/blower.

Only other search in another thread that seemed to offer hope was that a dealer was evidently able to chase down bad electrical line via computer, though unclear if this was Speedster.

Thanks all, Happy 4th.

04:as Sportster

I hav the same problem in my sportster, everything works fine but the gauges. But the lights in everyone works. I live in sweden and we dont have alot of seadoo shops around :(
So if any one have an idea please post it here

Well, I tried a 2002 model year fuel gauge from Great Lakes Skipper. The 2004 gauge is $250, the 2002 is $36. And the 2002 gauge works fine in my boat! Plugged right in and works fine. Connector is same. I did get my tach to work, it was only a fuse, but the speedo is still acting funny. It worked for about 10 minutes last week, but now it's on the fritz again. So, I may have a loose wire or something. But at least I know for sure that the cheaper gauges work.
